improve compatibility. I know some people say burning VCD at 4x or less makes it better, so i'm wondering if burning dvd-r's at 1x helps.

I'm making movies that need to be ultra compatibile.

I get the best results by using the default settings for the burner/media combo. This may end up being 1X. But it might also end up being 2X, 2.4X, or 4X. It's a fallacy to say that the best speed for burning is the slowest speed --- not necessarily so.

  3. this is not always true... on cheaper media its best to burn at 1 speed coz the disk was never made to burn at 2... (hacked firmware). If U want 2 burn at 2 speed buy a 2 speed disk & if U wanna burn at one for compatibility reasons burn at 1 speed.

cheap media 1 speed (2 if U like the risk of a screw up)

good media 1,2 what ever takes ya fancy

Most people who buy cheap media burn at high speeds such as 8X and 24X.

  5. granted but we were on about dvdr not cdr I burn at 16 for cdr making a vcd coz the disks R reliable now sometimes burn at 32!! for dvdr well its taking a big chance burning at 2 speed on a 1 speed disk, U can get good results but sometimes U dont. Think the main question was about dvdr anyway...

  6. I'd say it depends on your burner and your media. I have burned hundreds of 1x discs of two different media types at 2x with the sony dru500a. I can't say the same for other burners or other media. It all comes down to trial and error, or learning from the errors of others.

I have a DRU500A and am using Memorex DVD certified for 2x burning.

  8. this all getting a bit lost off now... the post was about burn speeds & do they make a difference! the answer was a yes... if U force crappy princo media to write at 2speed U will have hassle! thats a fact but ritek 1speed media will burn at 2 no bother! was on about media not writing speed. good 1 speed media will burn & cheap nasty 1 speed media may burn but from batch 2 batch U will have the dud ones anyway U need a hacked firmware to burn at 2 speed on crappy media (pioneer 104 not on hacked fimware anymore as its terrible)
