  1. I have a bunch of low quality mono sources (spoken word) and I want to create an MPEG-1 Layer II file at 32 kps mono. How can I create a valid CD that will play in VCD or SVCD capable DVD players?

The goal is to get as much audio as possible onto the CD. There will be no video necessary.

If the player supported Layer III MPEG I would be all set but lets assume that is not an option.

VCD is out, it's CBR. SVCD however is very viable. I have a number of 30-60 second intro clips that are black+white, stereo 128 kbps and are under 1 MB each.

Translating, you can simpley encode the video as a solid black Bitmap, VBR (real easy encode :P ). you could aslo title each audio clip, doesn't affect elngth. Match the length to the assembled audio clips. I'm not sure if 32k mono is supported, but 64k mono would be. That should translate into basically being a 64k mp3 file, since the video will take up about 3 mb for a whole disk.
