I have some incompatibility issues with backupping dvd's, some are media related, some are burnsoft related.... as I'm still with 1.0d firmware would it make a difference when I upgrade to 1.0g?

I heard some people say that the 1.0d is better, other say 1.0g is better...

I know the "official" changes, but how is it in the practice?

  2. I have found 1.0f much better than 1.0g. I upgraded to 1.0f then 1.0g. On g I could only burn @ 2x. So I downgraded to f and it works perfectly @ 4x.

  4. You can download it here: http://www.sony-cp.com/en/dvd/support/downloads/firmware/500a10f.zip

If you can't e-mail me at john@cking52.freeserve.co.uk and I will send it to you.

I use dvddecryptor to create an iso image of the dvd, them use recordnow max 4.5 to burn the image @ 4x.

If you dont have recordnow max lmk and I will tell you were to get it.

  7. The reason why i questioned it was because it's a Sony brand. If you did it i guess you can.

I had f/w 1.0d and Nero 5.5.9.14 and could record some 2x DVD-R but failed to use Verbatim 2.4x DVD+Rs.

Upgrading to 1.0g and using Nero 5.5.10.7b allowed me to use the Verbatim 2.4x DVD+Rs but not again the same DVD-Rs.

I now stick to using a certain brand (unknown) of bulk no-name-no-label DVD-Rs someone is providing that burn happily at 2x (20 out of 20 so far) and also TDK 2x ones, and f/w 1.0g and Nero 5.5.10.7b.

If I have problems with other media (or am able to obtain 4x media and have problems) I may consider upgrading to 2.0e (which I have waiting on my HD).
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
