    Hey all,

I'm getting into editing and am trying to get all my capture and input solutions sorted out.

I have a pretty fast system (P4 2.4 w/533FSB and 512m pc2700 RAM) but I need to make a chioce for a RT capture card or a converter. I need to have a versitle system because I'll be using many different sources and formats to capture from VHS, camcorders of all types, etc.

I've been looking at the canopus converters...but am having trouble picking one for the price.

    ADVC-50?
    ADVC-100?
    ADVC-1394?

Looking over the specs...it looks like the ADVC-1394 is the best bet - but what do I know...I'm a newbie!

    Any input would be appreciated!

The true difference between the units is what exactly are you planning to do...

I will let you know that with the ADVC units you will be capturing in AVI not in any encoded format, so hard drive space will also be a concern.

I use the ADVC-100 with Windows XP SP1, when I bought the unit I had intentions of exporting out to analog my finished projects for friends/family who don't own a DVD player ...

Best thing you can do is nose around the Canopus forum as well.. they have some excellent resources

I'm going to be doing pretty much the same thing except, on some occations, I'll be authoring to DVD too. I'd like to implement Video services as part of my business. Tranfers to DVD and home video editing - adding clips from different sources to one final product, be it VHS or DVD.

Thanks for the input. Anything else you could add would be fantastic! I'm still not sure if I'm going to just go for a converter or a RT card like DVRaptor or a Matrox RT.X10

(Not sure what this other post means as far as "one topic" being enough. )
