  1. I have a Cendyne CDICD00106, which is exactly the same as the Pioneer DVR-104 DVD-R/-RW drive. It is properly recognized during boot up in dos and in the bios, and even immediately after I boot up into windows. However, the minute I try to use the drive I have problems, and if I go into my computer the drive is no longer properly recognized, but recognized as a regular cd-rom drive. The drive will not play a commercial DVD movie. Also, I cannot burn with the drive. In windows, or in Nero. Both places give errors saying that the disk I am trying to write to is either not a cd-r, or is full. I cannot burn cds nor dvds. I cannot even read cds on the drive.

I have updated to firmware to 1.33, and then to 1.4, still no success. I have updated the ASPI drivers, and tried force aspi. I have made sure the drive is the master, and updated Nero to the latest version. I have also checked windows update. I am running XP. It seems to me that it may be a defective drive. Sorry about the long post but I just wanted to let you know what I've tried! Thanks for the help.

Have you tried checking rather the device is using DMA or PIO mode? Also test the drive while its the ONLY device on the IDE chain its using. If that doesn't work try to make sure you have a good IDE cable, and failing that I'd call Cendyne.

  3. How do I check if the device is in DMA or PIo mode? I did try a different IDE cable and the drive is the only device on the cable. I guess if the DMA check doesn't work I'll call Cendyne. I posted a message on their help forum and they suggested changing Nero settings which have resulted in no success. Thanks for the help.
