  1. When I try to play a DVD using PowerDVD XP 4.0, the program freezes after about 15 sec. of play, just as the movie begins. This happens on all DVDs. I have removed powerDVD, reinstalled drivers for video and soundcard, reinstalled and patched PowerDVD, and closed all running programs before trying to play DVDs. The program always seems ot freeze as the titles start to roll. Note that the DVD drive plays CD's fine and reads all dics. CDRW also works fine using Nero 5.5.
    Any sugestions would be appreciated!

    System is as follows:
    Asus P3C-D
    2 x P3 450/100
    1 GB RDRAM
    OS is WinXP w/SP1
JLMS 166S DVD as master on secondary IDE channel in position (0)
Lite0n 48X CDRW as slave on secondary IDE channel in position (1)
DMA is enabled on both drives
    Matrox G450 DVI w/ driver: 5.88.61.0
TB Santa Cruz w/ driver 5.12.1.4161
    PowerDVD v.4.0 (2417 patch installed)

  2. Why no help? I am frustrated with this program. Today I removed the Matrox card and installed an nVidia Quadro card I had here. I can make a DVD play if I go t fullscreen and fast forward past the beginning. This works on some DVDs, but I stil can't play the Fifth Element! Any suggestions?

  3. Maybe run "dxdiag" from the windows start menu to check your DX components. Also in device manager I would disable the Santa Cruz card to see there is a driver or dma conflict.

  4. Oh I forgot to mention that there are at least two patches for that program so download and install them.

  5. Thanks for the reply. I have previously tried with the Santa Cruz card disabled, but no difference. I will try again! I'll also run the dxdiag and let you know what happens.

  6. I ran the dxdiag and all sections report no errors. I disabled teh sound card and all other programs and PowerDVD still freezes as titles roll. Tried two different DVD's tonight with the same results. I have the Quadro card in now. When I play the 5th elelment DVD, it always fails at the same place, just as the images start to appear and the names start to appear. I am frustrated! Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

  7. Did you patch the program with the two patches I had mentioned? I had problems with PowerDVD until I installed the updates.
