Ok folks,
Like many of you, Ive been following the progress of 42 for a little while now. Ive tried the different versions as they've been released, Ive posted to the forums about 42, and even had a couple email conversations with kai about bugs, problems, and philosphy.
I going to be totally honest and admit that 42 still isnt perfect. Yeah there are bugs here and there, and this that or the other thing isnt exactly how id like it. However, after seeing 1.5.2, I realized that 42 would have been a fantastic peice of software had it been developed over the course of a year by a team of developers, getting paid 150K a year to work full time on the project.
Realizing however that 42 has been written by three guys in their spare time, for essentially no money (kai mentioned they've actually lost money on the project!) made me truly appreciate how ASTONISHING this software is.
If you've read the previous threads on this forum, you've probably read that for all the work these developers have done on 42, the primary rewards they've gotten have been truck loads of angy, annoying, and negative emails and forum posts.
Personally when I heard this I was disgusted and knew that as a beneficiary of their software I had to atleast try to do something.
So here's my challenge to everyone thats even tried 42: Take 2 minutes of your time and let the developers know how much you appreciate their work by responding to this thread with a kind word or two AND (this is equally important) by donating $5 (more if you can obviosuly).
If you've even encoded even 1 movie with 42, i dont think its much to ask for a kind word or two and $5. Can you honestly say that you can't spare 2 minutes of your time and $5?
I dont have alot money, but here and now Im taking a stand and showing, not only with these words, but with a $20 contribution, that I appreciate the hundreds (thousands??) or hours that 42's developers have put into this software for nothing more than the ability to make the lives of people like themselves a little easier. I hope all of you will do the same.

Agreed! I too have been following the posts and some of them disgust me. These guys owe nothing and yet give a great deal of their time. I haven't had much success with forty-two yet but am willing to donate $15 to the effort (as a matter of fact I just left this post for a moment and did it). I honor your efforts guys. Please keep up the work. Your sacrifice has not gone unnoticed.

As much as I think the negative behaviour was certainly uncalled for, I hope Kai have learned a lesson about getting involved with the public. I'm on the dole at the moment, havn't had a single backup from 42 actually work, and am still waiting on the fix to that little annoying "missing .iso" thing, nevertheless, I sent $20 USD yesterday. If this all pans out and we really do get a one-stop solution to this whole ripping process without the needless complication, then I'd be willing to pay $50 for the thing so I'm putting the other $30 in a jar to back my words up.

I chipped-in 10 bucks (pay-pal) 3 weeks ago. I don't regret a penny. This is the best app of its kind ever seen on this platform. Please show your support Mac friends

This topic seems to have died.
Does Forty-Two have a future, or have Kai & Co. decided to focus their efforts only on the commercially available Disco+?
At the very least, those of us who have donated to the cause could be given updates.
Forty-Two is a great product.
Thanks. -
I wouldn't expect an update to 42 for some time. It does it's job, and there isn't much you can update to that.
Wasting time/money and complaints *cough* Pal *cough* complaints *cough* pretty much killed any chances for 42 to update aside from newer builds of the binaries it uses.
