Hi,
Lots of people recommend the combination Pioneer A04+Ritek G03 DVD-R's.
I tried those two things together but each and every Movie has Reading Problems in the last 10% of the disk, which is really annoying!
I use InstantCopy7 and take everything from the Original Disk.
When I use a DVD-RW from Emtec (9$) everything is fine!!
I tried all available Firmwares for both the Pioneer A04 and my Stand Alone Player Tevion DVD 200.
What else can I try?

You are decrypting the dvd to your hardrive first correct? I have created around 200 discs using the A04 G03 combination, and have yet to burn a coaster that wasn't my fault.
-
Yes I am decrypting them to Harddisk first. As I said I burned the .pdi File(s) also to the Emtec DVD-RW and it works great. So I guess it must be the the G03's since I tried out all the Firmwares for the A04.

Take a close look at the media for voids or bubbles at the outer edge of the disc. I had similar problems with some Verbatim DVD-R media and what I did was only use them for burning movies under 3.9GB.
-
A good Idea. I'm sure that would work since the first chapters always work great. But how can I find out where the Border is? 4.0 Gig? 3.9? 3.7?
Is there a Tool that does something like a reding test on the Disk? Telling me a result in Gigabytes how much can be stored without Problems? -
Here's Another Phenomenon I don't understand:
I burn a Movie on the G03 and get Coasters and my Player says "Skipping bad Sectors".
Then I take the Disk an copy it on my Harddisk. I don't get ANY Reading Errors from my DVD-Rom Drive!!
Then I try to playback the Files on the Harddisk and the Movie has coasters again!!!!!
How is this possible? Shouldn't the DVD-Rom Drive give me a message that it couldn't read certain parts of the Disk??? -
Burn your Ritek G03's on 1 speed and you will not have readingproblems.
The G03 discs are ONLY 1 speed - allthoug the A04/104 and some other combinations of burners/firmware allow 2 speed burning on them.
This is the reason Pioneer changed the firmware in the A05/105 to only support 1 speed burning of Ritek G03 -
I AM recording at 1x. The only Firmwares that allowed me to burn at 2x were 1.31 and 1.33. Now I'm back at 1.40 again and burning 1x, but there is no difference to the older Firmwares or the 2x recording. The Results are the same!

are you using the G03 7's or Y's?
I've burned 85 of the Ritek DVD-R G3 PY's and no a single coaster
and they are almost all burned to max capacity w/my A04 drive and
the 1.31 firmware at 2X.
I'd venture to guess you are using the 7's which are a lower grade.

I'm having similar issues with my A04, fw 1.40. I burned through 50 straight G03 P..7's, and had 0 coasters. I got in a spindle of P..Y's and am having probs with every single one (9 so far). BTW, the 7/Y falls in the byte pattern that defines the Write Strategy for the disc, so that indicates they are of a different dye composition at the very least. So either they are of lower grade, or the Pioneer firmware can't handle this write strategy very well. (It's bytes 11-14 of the 0Eh page if anyone cares).
I don't know what to do about it, unless someone knows a fw rev that works with them. My buddies with A05 and DRU500 have no issues with them.

I would like to contribute to this thread and add that I am also having issues with my Pioneer A04 and Ritek G03's P 7

These I purchased from www.rima.com
I get the same read errors at about %60 - %80 at the end of the movie...even sub 4GB ones.
Also, when I try to burn them with my Toshiba SD-R6012 it will return a write error to these discs and not continue....this of course cannot be read after that point...what I noticed is though the Toshiba SD-R6012 stops at the write errors the Pioneer A04 continues to write past this point but obviously the error is still there on playback. I know this is not an error in the movie cause the error point is different each time for the same movie. -
vandakeg: advdinfo, look on the DVD media link on this site.
others: it think it's worthwhile to point out that I'm having issues with the "Y" model not the "7" like some of you. Are you all at F/W 1.40? The disc batches are definitely tuned for different writing, so there has to be something different about our drives that is cropping up here. (it seems to me). -
motster,
no...I was at 1.40 but downgraded to 1.31 for the 2x speed on the G03's.
I just ran a test with the same Ritek G03's

at 2x burned with the flaws everyone seems to be experiencing....freezing at the end of the movie.
at 1x burns fine with no flaws at the end of movie
has anyone else burned at 1x and still had a problem with the G03 P7's ? -
ok for grins I downgraded to 1.31 and am burning a P..Y at 1x, with Verify every 10 rounds. Sidenote, ALWAYS RUN VERIFY!!
If you don't, you may never know of these media failures, especially if your dvd player is particularly good at skipping over errors.
-
Welp same failure with 1.31.
I'm clear out of ideas. My friends with A05/DRU500a continue to have NO problems with the media out of this batch. Yet every one of mine fails, and if I swap a TDK in, it burns FLAWLESSLY. Back to 1.40 for me.
