I've searched the forums and while and I have seen simlar problems reported but I have not seen it approached this way.
I have been ripping dvds for a while now and I am ripping them for playback on standalones. My main standalone is an Apex 1500 and plays all my rips flawlessly. The majority have been TMPGENC encoded Xvcds with the bitrate usually set at about 1400 but recently I have discovered DVD2SVCD and have ripped SVCDS with what I believe are all the defaults in DVD2SVCD.
Recently I picked up a Apex 1110W and find that my XVCDs won't play due to the dreaded pausing and jumping video problems (I even have some VCD's encoded with the standard VCD template that do not play well) . My SVCDS play fairly well but do not seem to be as smooth as I would like them or as smooth as they are on my Apex 1500. Every SVCD or VCD I download from newsgroups seem to play on the new 1110W better than my own encodes.
So, all that was a long prelude to a question I hope someone can help me with - Are there settings that are more compatible with standalone players than others? Should I let DVD2SVCD use Constant Quality or is VBR more compatible? Should I enclude the ripping of chapters or is that a problem (they don't really matter to me). Any tips would be great as I dread the thought of my Apex 1500 dying and me not having a machine to play the majority of my VCD's and SVCD's
