  1. In trying to follow this guide, I follow the steps, but at the end of the conversion, TMPEG gives the error:

    Invalid pointer operation
The conversion starts normally with the video visable in the little window after I hit "start", but before long, the window just turns black and the resulting file is the same way.

I've checked the source file and it appears to be fine.

What do I need to do?

    Thanks.

  3. Wetling,

This is a known problem for Xvid. You should use Virtualdub (latest version at www.virtualdub.org) and frameserv to TMPGEnc. See the how to section to do this.

    Good Luck,

  4. Will Gspot work to scan for bad frames?

I was already in the How To section. I my question stems from the use of this guide.

  5. There are two ways you can handle your problem. Go to www.doom9.org. Go to the download section and download the Fourcc changer. You can load your file into it and change the codec fron an Xvid codec to a Divx codec. This should solve your bad frames problem. Many people have said it worked for them. It seems to work fine for the Main Concept video encoder, but I still have problems with TMPG even after using this method. You can also delete the bad frames by using a new version of Virtual Dub called V-Dub MP3 freeze. Instructions on how to do this are found at www.dvdhelp.com/forum/userguides/142555.php. You will also find the link there to download V-dub MP3 freeze. This is the method that works for me. If you use this method you may have to extract the audio as a wav file and encode at a constant bit rate.
