    Hello.

I've got files in DivX AVI format that I want to write to DVDR. The final screen in MF2 says I have 3.6 GB in files and 4.4 GB available, so I think, "Perfect!" However, I still get prompted for a second DVDR... can anyone tell me what's going on? I don't understand what MF2 is doing to my source files--I'm assuming in the conversion it's bloating them or something, but I honestly don't know.

Anyone have any experience with this? I'd really like to understand what's going on, and how to handle it. Right now, I have no idea how much I can store on a standard DVDR (I know it's about 4.4 GB, but after conversion, I don't know how big the files are.)

I hope someone can help. I'm tearing my hair out here.

    Thanks,
    Brian

you should convert your avi/divx file to dvd complient mpeg before trying to use it in dvd workshop. if you convert the file with tmpgenc it will let you set the size of the encoded file so it should fit on 1 dvd-r.
find out more on this page:

boss, I hate to introduce an additional step, but if that will fix the size problem, I'll do it.

Will let you know how this works out.

    Thanks for the help!

I'm surprised you got it to accept any divx at all? I tried and it simply said it couldn't load the files??

    branch,

At first, mine wouldn't work with my AVI files, either. I talked to ULead support, which was worse than useless. They ignored multiple emails, so I called them. After fumbling around a bit, the support guy said MF2 wouldn't work with DivX files. He said the newest version of ULead Visual Studio MIGHT work, but no guarantees. They also wouldn't accept MF2 back.

So I used gspot to see that the AVI files I was trying to import were actually DivX AVI files. I then went to www.divx.com and downloaded the free codec, and I was able to import them! All it took was getting the codec!

I wonder if the free codec (displays at a lesser quality) also affects the recording quality? I would gladly pay the $15 to get the pro version if it'll make my recordings better quality.

Try the codec... and please(!) let me know how your experience goes. I am still new to this and eager to learn.

Nothing (really) to do with you MF2 problems but AFAIK, and as far as playback is concerned the free codec is exactly the same quality as the paid version. Howver, when encoding TO divx from some other format, the paid codec has extra features that supposedly allow for better quality encodes. The free codec can still play these files back tho.

  7. I found out that DVD Movie Factory 2 does not like movies that have frame rates of 23.976, even when using the 3:2 Pulldown. It would always try to rencode a 2GB MPEG-2 movie to about 9GB. Make sure your AVI's are not encoded at 23.976 frame rate.
