This may be the wrong forum for this so I'll appolagize in advance. I am trying to convert a ripped DVD to a DV (AVI not DiVx) format to output to a VHS recorder. I have Dazzle's DV Hollywood Bridge and MainActor software (as well as TMPEG, VDub and others). I need to get the vob and audio file into an AVI format because this is what the Hollywood Bridge needs to output. I have done searches through the forums with no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    D. E.

    Catnip,
If your ripped DVD has been converted to anything playable on your DVD player, why don't you just feed the output of the DVD thru your VHS and record? Or, if it's on your PC, and you have a card with Video Out, play it on the PC into the VHS, and record? Before I sprung for a standalone DVD, I played mine in the PC player with TV Out. Great pic on TV, should be close after recording to VHS. And TV Out signal, analog, is compatible with TV, has to be same for VHS.

Thanks for the reply gmatov. I have no TV out, just the output from my DV bridge. I guess I can isolate the MPEG2 files and convert them to AVI...???? I'll try this and see what happens.

    Thanks again,

catnip Tmpgenc plus will output to .avi but be sure you have enough hd space. create a .d2v for frameserving and load it into tmpgenc. select file, output .avi, tell it where to save it.

  5. if you would have bought the Canopus ADVC-100 (MSRP $300), you could have gone directly from a stand alone DVD player to your VHS player

You can convert your downloaded VOBs to DV avi files with VirtualDub v1.4.13 if you have a DV codec installed. Select all file types to view the VOBs when opening a new video file. Under Video - compression, choose the DV Codec.

Is your Hollywood Bridge limited to only DV avis? If not, I would suggest using a MJPEG codec... uses less disk space.

Thanks all for the help. bhutchins, when I bought my bridge (May of 2002) I had not heard of Canopus ADVC-100. I thought I did pretty good research at the time but if I had known of Canopus and it's capabilities then that would have been my choice. I have a friend who has one and it is awsome!!!!. I will try the other suggestions with Vdub and TMPGe.
Megahurts, yes. The DV Bridge just outputs DV (AVI). This makes it a little bit limited but for capture it's great. At the time it seemed very good for the price ($219).

    Thanks again,
