  2. Hey Kai,
Love your products but dont you think $40 is to much to charge for an app directed at pirating DVD's?

  4. I didnt mean anything by that comment. But that is the only real world usage for this software. I am kinda new to these forums so forgive me if that question was out of line. I would love to see you guys make money from your efforts but it just seemed like the price was to high for what the app does. I have read the other posts where the "donationware" deal wasnt working out and I am sorry to hear that. The previous post was not meant to flame you or anything. If there was some other way than PayPal I would have sent a donation the day this software was released. Its not like some of us dont want to donate, its just that there are not enough options to do so.

I'm going to have this thread closed, first of all.

Secondly, I have kids. Kids watch the same movies over and over again, open the dvd player with sticky fingers, *fight over* which one to watch, etc.

This software was written to mitigate that, or messy roomates tht ruin dvds, etc.

It doesn't *pirate* anything...as an end-user, that *infringing use* would be up to you.

If you have bought as many dvds as I have, only to find someone has gone into the cabinet and decided to slide a few across the floor, the intended purpose for the software become VERY apparent.

Also, by design, it does NOT clone dvds; as a fair-use issue, if you have the original you don't need a clone, now do you?

As for the price, there are two products...license the one with the features you want..then contrast it with similar products in the PC space.

Actually there are other scenarios where this program can be used that does not involve piracy. For example, DVDs are expensive and sometimes difficult to replace. If you let your kids (or those who act like kids) use your DVDs, they can be damaged. These programs provide an easy way to protect your originals by using copies. That can pay for the product pretty fast.

As far as donations go, I believe that there are now other options. Check their site. I am not affiliated with the project but I do believe in supporting them and have contributed a significant amount.

Oops, I see that Kai replied as I was doing this one.

  7. Kai,
Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry if I came off the wrong way. As far as I can tell its the best thing out there for the Mac. My reasons for copying DVD's mirror your own. Kids and DVD's dont mix very well. Good luck with the future of this software. As I stated above.....as soon as an alternate payment option becomes available you will have my donation.

  8. Disco is not Donationware. If you'd like to purchase a license, you can send a money order, or a check or whatever.

As far as other CC methods, its not going to happen. No one else in the business can meet our needs at this time for payment processing.

I realize that for whatever reasons, folks have "issues" with paypal, which in this day and age, are largely no longer relevant. But so it goes

In fact, I had someone who I *know for a fact* "hates" Paypal go ahead and sign up (What? 5 mins max?) and register. I was honored.

Besides, you are paying for something you virtually already have in your hands, with one of the most accessable development teams on Earth.

But like I said, so it goes. Would have loved to use Kagi, but I don't work with anyone who assumes I'm dishonest upfront, and instead of charging a resonable fee for service, wants to charge a fee, plus make interest off my funds before allowing me to access them.

With a PPal business acount, I don't have this concern.

Seriously! We should have stock in Pixar and Disney as many copies of ToyStory and A Bug's Life as we've gone thru at our house, lol
