  1. I have found that the first time I create a copy to DVD everything works fine. However if I try again there is a problem. Here is how to duplicate it.

    1. Transcode to a DVD using the same destination folder for the .iso and the temp files.
    2. Decide that the .iso image is too small and you want a better quality version.
    3. Throw away the .mpg file that was made but keep the .iso file (just in case you want to keep it).
    4. Rename the .iso file so tyhere is no conflict. In my case I renamed "THE_BOURNE_IDENTITY.iso" to "prevTHE_BOURNE_IDENTITY.iso.old"
    5. Run forty-two again to get a larger file but save to the same folder as the first time.
    6. Forty-two completes and there is no new .iso file but there is now a file named "1-THE_BOURNE_IDENTITY.mpg"

I have had this happen three times now with different discs.

Now, since it took over 70 hours to do the last run, how do I burn the .mpg file to DVD?

    Thanks,
    -Roger

I forgot to mention that this is w/ v1.51

  2. Roger,

Use DiscomVOBulator to back up your DVD Movies, Bourne Identidy, should convert to 2 DVD-R's in about 3 hours. This is the movie only, but all one "really" needs for a backup.

I am trying to get all backups onto just one disc each. And yes, I am just too lazy to get up and swap discs. I also like to watch from start to finish without interruptions.

There has to be an easy way to burn the .mpg file though. I just do not know how.

Roger, Kai has found a split bug in 1.5.1 and 1.5.2. It has to do with an error in the split coding and results in a cue/bin not being created. There is a thread with this same subject where Kai said he is working on the fix

OK. Thanks. I saw that thread but was not sure if that was the same problem. I will wait on other conversions until the next release.

Also, I just got a message from Kai stating that at least for now conversions should be done in sub-folders and not in the same one over and over again.

Any suggestions on how to burn the .mpg file? I would like to avoid another 3 days of processing if possible.

    Thanks,
    -Roger

Yes... there are temp files and whatnot that i didn't feel it was safe to erase, because God only knows where people try to do their conversions and I did *not* want to wipe someone's HD since if there was a bad char in their path that we couldn't filter.

What I generally do in have a folder as my "base" then make folders inside that for what i want to convert. That way if I abort it, I can trash the whole folder.

Yes, that one was three days (on a G4/500 that I am not using for anything else right now). I have been experimenting on getting the best settings to fill up a DVD-5. That test was VBR=3 and Bit Rate=9000. The .mpg file was 3.6GB which seems about perfect. See https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=145731 for the disc and sizes of previous tests.

I have tried Disco which is definetly faster but I prefer forty-two since it fits on one disc and I am not in a rush for the results.

    Thanks,

Well, what you need to do is demux this, then feed it to Sizzle. The fixed 1.5.2(a) will hopefully get your .iso's back in.

1 char was mistyped that munged up the whole thing, so we are testing it again. Since I have the slow computer, i'm doing vcd, bilestyle is doing svcd, chris is trying to get his machine to even *work* now, lol...
So it may be a day or two, *after* I find time after *everything else* I need to do is done, and I relax, have a coffee, cut my nails, etc

  10. Each 42-created .mpg I've tried to demux using bbDemux crashes that program before it starts the audio files.

The demuxer in Missing Mpeg Tools splits out many different m2v and mp2 chunks, some with a zero size, and that doesn't look right.

What is an effective demuxing tool for 42-created .mpgs (coded to DVD format)?

This is easy. Use Extractor 095 to create the audio and video file, this takes about 30 min. Then drop both files into Sizze to make your image; this takes about 30 min. I have done three movies with excellent results. 42 did an excellent job reducing movies ranging from 6 to 7 gigs down to 2.5 to 4.3 gigs and all are in sync. My complements to the developers; and yes, I have donated. Keep up the good work! Hope this helps.
