  1. Newbie here, so please excuse my ignorance.

I ripped my LOTR: FOTR Special Extended Edition DVD using 0SEx 0.0101b, hoping to make a DivX movie with ffmpegX 0.0.6g. I checked the 'Encode 5 sec test clip' so I can enter the crop values and eliminate the black bars at the top and bottom of the movie. Problem is, once I enter the crop values and re-encode for 5 seconds, the black bars are gone but the video is stretched vertically and fills up the space where the black bars were. Is there a way to keep the aspect ratio while also removing the letterboxing?

Thanks a lot for any help.

  2. You need to make sure that your video resolution matches what you are cropping. It sounds like you are keeping your video resolution at 640x352 (which is a 16x9 aspect ratio), when you really need to have it at 640x272 (which is a 2:35:1 aspect ratio, which LOTR is).

  3. mlindber,

The simplest of solutions never ceases to amaze me. Thanks a lot!
