What type of video ?
Virtualdub, avidemux or avisynth can all do this. You will have to re-encode the video after cropping.Read my blog here.

this is a sample of image : http://i47.tinypic.com/2hrcu9v.png
It is a Bluray ( Video Resolution / Codec : 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 / Aspect Ratio : 1.33:1 ) and I want to encode it to 720p with an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 , if it's possible..... -
You have three choices
1. Resize the image you have down to 1280 x 720, keeping the vertical bars
2. Crop off the vertical bars, resize it to 720 pixels high and whatever width it becomes
3. Crop off the vertical bars to get back to 1.33, then crop off some of the top and bottom of the image until you hit 1.78, then resize to 1280 x 720
Option 1 is the best option if you want to create an AVCHD disc, and the only way to get a proper 720p result
Option 2 is practical if you just want the image as a playable file, but it is not AVCHD disc compliant
Option 3 is just pointless butcheryRead my blog here.

Thanks a bunch @guns1inger !!!
You speak to me as an expert ,but I'm not((((
I understood what you mean ,but practically , HOW can I do that ???
Let's say I chose first option...to create an AVCHD disc , can I use MeGui...or TSMuxer ?? there is such an option , as I remember well...
option 2 : crop the vertical bars...HOW ??? what soft is necessary ??
a.s.o. I'm not accustomed to use such softs and is more difficult to understand why and how from the first time..
I don't know how to...crop...there is an option within the softs you've indicated to me ??
there is a tutorial or something ?Last edited by Benjy; 22nd May 2010 at 08:46.

Simplest - multi-AVCHD. Load your video, click on the title to open the Properties screen, then click on Transcode. Select 1280 x 720 (if it hasn't been already), 2 pass fast for quality, and set an appropriate bitrate (use this bitrate calculator to do this). Let it chug for an many hours at it needs - could be 6 - 8 or more on your system - then burn the results with Imgburn.
Also simple is AVCHDCoder, but the download is much larger.
Either will do the job very well.Read my blog here.

this multi-AVCHD remove those black bars on the sides?
operations indicated by you are identical to those used to normal encode ...
Is this the method for removal those black bars? -
Why remove the bars ?
If you have a 4:3 TV, zoom it to fill the screen or tell your player to output 4:3. The bars will be gone.
If you are creating a 720p (1280 x 720 image area) output then you must either keep the bars, stretch the image to be distorted with everyone looking fat, or crop off the bars and then crop off almost one third of the image and then resize.
If you have a widescreen (16:9) TV then you must keep the bars to keep the image at the correct aspect ratio. That is why they are there. If you crop them off then the player will just put them back anyway, or distort the image.
Back to square one.
What type of file do you want to create ?Read my blog here.

IT's a BD and I want to create a .mkv file..
Most people do not agree that black bars , but I understood perfectly now : It doesn't worth to try to eliminate them...
Many thanks !!! -
People who don't understand how it works complain, but they are there for a reason. For the rest of them, there is the zoom button.
Keep the bars and enjoy the film. If you notice the bars, obviously the film isn't keeping your interest.
That said, if you want an MKV file, and not an AVCHD structure, try Handbrake, which will crop off the bars in order to save on bitrate. You will still get them on playback, but you don't need to encode them.Read my blog here.

both of you have great justice to what you say, although it is a fashion to make certain movies crop
this film is remastered, so the more so not worth..
Once again THANKS for helping me !!!
