I want to capture VHS and ReplayTV movies and burn them to DVD. I would like some input from expericened members. I am currently using an ATI AIW 128 pro to capture the movies which run anywhere from 80 to 90 minutes. I have tried several different formats 720 X 240, 640 X 480, and 320 X 240 avi's. Once this is done I do some filtering and editing if necessary via vituraldub. Use TMPEGEnc to encode a meg 2 file using the lower res of 320 X 240 or should I use 352 X 480 res.
Currently I have myDVD software but plan on using Nero once it arrives. MyDVD is really a poor program and it will always re-encode the file again. I have been successful in burning a short 40 minute program but nothing longer. I have luck burning svcd's and vcd's for several 60 minute tv shows although the audio is slighly degraded. I burn those with NTI software.
I have been looking at the bitrate calculators and info that is available in the tools section. Today I have worked formulas trying to compare the results to what the bitrate cal program comes up with. I get them close but no horseshoe.
I am looking for an answer to how much of the 4.7GB (actually 4.37GB) disk should I use and how the max, min, and avg. bit rate should figured. I also have read that some just use standard numbers for these items.
Any sugestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

So you don't look like you're bilboarding and falsely increasing your 'number of posts'.
