I have an old digital camera (JVC DLV9000), 400.000 pixels. I want to create VCD, SVCD or XSVCD discs of my recordings, but are not sure what resolution makes sense. I want to achieve maximum picture quality, but want to prevent unnecessary overhead.
-What resolution should I use for capturing to PC? Please advise....

If you are making VCD, capture to 352x288, for SVCD 480x576. If you are "capturing" your video by firewire you may as well use your cameras native resolution of 720x576. That way you are just copying the video from your camera (re-sizing it may add overhead for your CPU and you may get dropped frames).
All resolutions stated are for PAL. For NTSC replace 288/576 with 240/480
