  1. when converting from an avi file to make an SVCD the process stops and I get a message that says "index of scanline is out of range".
    Can someone explain to me what this means and tell me what I'm doing wrong.

    It sounds like he or she's using TMPGEnc.

    Try first to change the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2.
