  1. I want to transfer my copies of Star Trek: The Animated Series to 3" CDs.

The animation is really quite simple with not much motion and simple colors. The cartoon length is 22 minutes (I'm leaving off the intro and credits). The specs on the 3" CDs are 24min/210mb. I would assume for my purposes here the bit rate on an SVCD would have to be about the same as for a VCD. Would an SVCD still look better in this case? What about XVCD?

    Thanks!!

  2. best bet would be to code up a few, view them on your computer and
    1 see how they look
2 check what sort of size the file is.

VCD is about 10mb per min so would suit your app exactly.
n.b. why 3 inch cdr's ? some sort of mobile application?

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

SVCD will gain you very little, if anything, since you'll still have to restrict it to the same low bitrate of a VCD to get it on the disc. (In fact, it could well end up worse, since your frame size will be larger and so the encoder will have to try to get even more detail into that same small amount of space.)

XVCD will also gain you nothing, since the only thing that makes it "X" is a higher bitrate, and/or larger frame size, than standard VCD -- both of which put you right back to the same problem as SVCD.

Given the rather... *ahem*... "limited" animation used in the Star Trek animated series, VCD can probably handle it without too much trouble.

  4. Thanks for the advice. The 3-inch CD is just so my nephew can have discs that store with his GameCube disc carrycase.

I do know of a portable 3" CD/MP3/VCD-audio player from ArtDioInc.com but unless I can hack a video-out from it and attach an LCD screen I don't think it's too useful.
