Star Trek TOS was originally released with two episodes per disk. They were then re-released with four episodes per disk. Don't ask why but I want remaster the two episode disks, saving their menus but using the vob files from the four episode per disk set. I tried using IFOUPDATE but I keep getting an error "original pgc area not large enough" What am I doing wrong?

  2. Hi-

Let me see if I understand what you're up to. You're using the 2-episode DVD as a "base" sort of, keeping the menus from it, but using 2 of the episodes by turn from the 4-episode DVDs to replace the ones in the 2-episode DVDs.

I take it you don't have to actually reencode the the episodes from the 4-disc set so 2 of them at a time will fit in the 2-disc sets. You just want to transfer them over.

Here's how I'd do it. I'm not sure this is the most efficient way to do it, but it should work. I think. Set up DVD Decrypter in IFO Mode (not the default, up at the top, Mode->IFO), and decrypt each episode from the 4-episode DVD into its own folder. You'll have to rename the VOBs and IFOs as:

    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    etc.
That's if some are VTS_02_X.VOB or VTS_03_X.VOB, etc.

Now, open the 2-episode DVD in VobBlanker. Highlight the VTS that contains the episode(s) so that it (they) opens in the lower screen. Highlight the episode in the lower screen and to the right hit the "Replace" button. Scroll to where the better VOBs are and click on the VTS_01_0.IFO (that's why you maybe had to rename them). Do the same for the other episode. Give it an output folder (destination) and "Process". If the chapter count is different between the 2 versions, you may get a VobBlanker warning, and it won't affect playback, but it may affect some of the later chapters being called from the chapters menu.

The VOB Blanker option works with one important modification. After you open VobBlanker go to the settings panel and click "more". A new panel will open and in replacement options make sure you check "copy stream options from replacment ifo file. Unless you check this option the processed files will contain the wrong ifo information files.
