Ok I run Win2k, and I would like to do some video capture of TV shows that I like and also start putting my daughters camcorder footage on cd to send out to family members etc. Now I have read and been told that MPEG-2 is the best but hard to find compatible cards in win2k right now. I have also been told that instead of buying an expensive card $200+ I should get like a Wintv Theater or something and use mjpeg or other codecs to capture via software I suppose. I have looked at the wintv cards but the resolution they list as supported is always so low. I understand that my knowledge on video capture is very low and I need some help here. Please guide me to where I need to go since you know what i need now. thanks guys
i would love to buy a dc10+ for 79 bucks i found but then i would have to dual boot win98se and win2k.
Celeron II 566 @ 952 at 1.8v, Abit BE6 rev 1.01, 192 megs PC133, 20 gig WD UMDA-66, 6X Toshiba DVD-rom, Matrox G450 DDR 32 meg AGP, SBlive Value, HP 7200i CD-RW, etc etc on Win2k

The DC10+ will make it easier to capture due to its on-board hardware MJPEG compression, but this will also limit the quality. However, the quality loss might not be too great if you increase the data rate to its maximum. (I've never used a DC10+.)
You can capture at up to 720x480 (NTSC) or 768x576 (PAL/SECAM) with most WinTV boards and the right drivers. However, you'll need either a really fast hard drive or CPU because the video is sent uncompressed. I suspect your system would be able to handle 640x480 if you used an MJPEG codec.

any good mpeg2 cards that are under $120? I could just install a minimal install of win98 on my win2k system
