  1. (I don't know what warez is, but if my question applies to it sorry)
Is there anyway to play a burned DVD on the PS2 without buying upgrades or any other sort of thing? If you can help please do.. thanks.

  2. You'll probly have to get a mod chip for your PS2. I think that the PS2 can only play commercial discs. I don't know much about it since I don't have one but, there are some places that sell mod chips for playing copied dvds.

  4. Thanks, I am trying to play a backup movie. Not a game. It just says that the disk can't be read.

  5. Depends on the media. What type, DVD-R, DVD+R, etc.

Does the DVD work in your DVD player or computer? What type of DVD format is it?

  6. I only recently started tests with the PS2. I used both a pioneer DVD-RW and a Memorex DVD-R. The later worked but took slightly longer to start. The former woulnd't read (both were burned in Nero). PS2 Is unmoded and I just used the standard DVD video template in Nero 5.10.7b

  7. Ps2's i think will only play exact copies of movie, so if you reencode or anything i dont think it will play, but again im not too sure. All of the movies that i did using dvd-r discs were exact copies and worked perfectly.

  8. PS2 will play re-encoded movies if they were authored right. Re-encoding has nothing to do with it not playing. Unless you are trying those non-compliant DVDs, VCD on DVD or SVCD on DVD. That will not work.

Like Shabubu said, the media and DVD-R will be fine. Also what version PS2 matters. Some are more forgiving than others.

  9. Will this work for a v1 non-modded PS2 because i am having problems but it might have been the vcd thing so i was just wandering if you could tell if it works for +R discs before i waste more blank discs.

  11. Ps2's play copies of dvd movies without needin a modchip full stop.

After that a lot of variables come into play ie version of ps2, media etc.

I have a ps2 v7 wit magic 3. I use smartripper, dvd2one and prassi for all movies. I burn to ritek silver top at 2x on 104 wit 1.31 firm. All perfect.

In my expierence never use nero for anything. Prassi or RecNow Max only.

go here- it is the home of the ps2

Try DVD-R, DVD+RW will not work. Possibly DVD+R, but I doubt it.

  15. i have a PS2 model v7 and i can play DVD-R DVD+R and DVD+RW movies with no problem. and you don't need a modchip in order to play backed up movies.
i read that Sony had changed the laser block of the PS2 and that is why older version of the PS2 have a hard time reading burned DVD media beside DVD-Rs
i ran a search on google and found this if you want to check what PS2 version you have

I author my dvd-r's using Nero using the dvd(rom) UDF/ISO setting.no multisession.Under iso tick iso level 1 & iso 9660 and untick the joilet box.Under UDF tick the box that says "force dvd compatibility mode(required for xbox Tm)" and this greys out the udf physical partition boxes. Now click on new and assemble your compilation and write.

THIS has worked on dvd's I have done and tested on 4 of my friends PS2's (unchipped),they all played perfectly except that NTSC films were in black & white as Playstations (pal ones) cant seem to handle NTSC.
