  1. Is the light on the front of the DRU-500A supposed to blink while it is recording or is it supposed to be solid? While I'm recording the light flashes on mine.

The reason I'm asking is that I upgraded to the 1.0g and EZ CD 5.3.4.21 recently and it seems like its burning slower than normal.

For example, I burned about 43 MB to a 4X CD-RW today and it took around 65 seconds to burn the file (file speed ranged from 3x to 6x), but then took over a minute to finalize the CD (EZCD reported 3X during the finalize stage). I've been reusing this CD-RW, but no where near 100 times.

I then burned 1341 MB to a DVD+RW and it took between 6 and 7 minutes which I think is about right.

Definately flash............ well mine does anyway!

After doing the firmware upgrade to 1.0g did you remember to re-enable DMA for your Optical drives?

Had my burner about a week or so now and the first thing I did was upgrade the firmware to 1.0g from 1.0d. After the upgrade I forgot to re-enable DMA and found that ripping and burning DVD's ran very slowly. I suspect that this may be your problem.

That's true, it does blink for DVD and CD music and movie disks. However, I did a couple of "software" disks on RW media, and the light stayed solid throughout the entire burn process. Seemed pretty interesting to me. Then when I did my next movie it blank off and on again. When doing DVD-R's for movies, on my computer, the SONY light blinks in unison with my hard drive light.
