Sounds suspicious to me. An SCR file is usually a windows screensaver. But beware, SCR files (along with BAT, EXE, PIF + lots more) often contain viruses.

When you say "it sems to work alright"... does this mean it opens in Media Player/WinDVD etc ?
If so it might just be an mpeg with a different extension.
Have you tried checking it with MpegProperties ?

If it is an mpeg, then it's a simple case of following the guides for making VCD (tools=TMPGenc & Nero)

Oh, and this answers your other question regarding "downloaded clips". These clips are usually AVIs or MPGs, so just follow the first guide under "Convert" to the left, then burn with Nero or similar.

  5. yes, it opens in WMP and plays. but when I try to load it into vcdeasy, it doesnt recognize it. Tmpeg say the file is not suported, and dvd2avi doesnt know what to do with it......

do i need to convert it differently?

OK, we'll start with some basic checks.
It sounds like it's actually an AVI file, so grab some AVI checking tools from the Tools link to the left. Look for AVIcodec and Gspot.

Open your file in them and see if if they can determine what codec your file is using.
(You may or may not need to rename the file to .avi By the way, did you try renaming to .avi before using the other players/converters you mentioned above?)

Reply with your findings, or if it does not work.

  7. ok, AVIcodec says it is an mpeg layer-3(MS MPEG4 V3)

Gspot says the same....is that bad?
