  1. I'm getting sick of people lieing to me about compatibility with DVD backups for the US Version PS2 regarding movies and games! I need people who have a Version 1 PS2, who CAN play backups, to explain to me EXACTLY how they made the disc! Media brand, software, settings, ect.

    Thanks

P.S. Please resond ONLY if you have facts regarding this issue !

  9. First off you need help ask nice. the reason your ps2 might not play some DVD is that you use cheep media and old ps2 do not read DVD-RW and do not read DVD+R and DVD+RW only read DVD-R

  10. Sorry if you think i'm being a jerk, but when you have lots of money going into a project like this and are getting nothing out of it it makes you this way.

Now, to the person who said that their V1 works, can you please elaborate?

  11. well i really didnt do anything special. I ripped the dvd using dvd decrypter into a iso. Then i just burned it to a dvd-r also using dvd decrypter. The dvd i copied was a dvd5.

  12. I had problems in the beginning as well with my back ups, but found the key was the media I was buying...I had some Ritek DVD-R (white top) discs which seem to work intermitantly on my PS2, I found Optodisc DVD-R (silvertop) discs would not play back at all.

I have had consistant success with Samsung's BeAll discs (which ironically look identical to the Optodiscs that failed everytime for me). The only place I know you can find these discs is http://www.meritline.com/specbealdv47.html

They also have a sampler package where you can test various flavors of discs to find the one thats right for you @ http://www.meritline.com/newdvdsam153.html

Like I said, since I've been using the Samsung discs, the headaches have gone away...

    Regards,
    Ivan

It would be easyer if u told us what u are doing. I mod PS2's and have dealt with all the models and have two Version 1's here right now, all play backups fine (DVD-R), so if you tell us what u are doing and what the ps2 says mabey we can help. And trust me everyone here has lost a lot of money when they first started, Lucky for me I have been making DVD's for years for my job and did not have to have a big learning curve, but even for someone who makes them copying is still a lot diff. Anyway we will try to help but getting pissed does not help people help u.

Well easy than it will not work with + media, if u do not have the sony 500 series than u need a diff burner, or a new laser might work, I have replaced lots of lasers in the version 1-3 and some end up being able to play + some do not, luck of the draw. Well hope some of this helps, but it should play DVD-R, I have worked on ton's of them and all would play DVD-R. Buy as a rule of thumb, version 1 will not play + media

  16. Well, in your opinion what should I do short of buying a new PS2??
Where can I get a new laser that will fit in a V1?

It is not as simple as putting a new laser in, it has to be adjusted, I will see what lasers I have around that work with + media and Version 1-4 (same laser) But in honesty it is cheaper to bye a new dvd than a laser, Gonna be about $90 U.S. for one, An Apex is only around 60 or 70 dollars. Just my opinion, So have a great day.
