  1. I have a number of enhanced cds that contain mpeg-videos that I would like
to burn on a(n) (s)vcd, so I can watch them on my TV. I find it extremely
frustrating that I have not been able to do so with acceptable results, so I
have been forced to ask friends with PC's to do so for me. I'm sure there
must be a way to do it on a mac too! I use a G4 running OS X.2.

I have tried demuxing the mpeg-file, using BBDemux, then muxing it again
using Quicktime Pro, then exporting it using Quicktime Pro or M.pack so that
Toast recognizes it, but the quality is unwatchable. I'm sure there must be
a way to get this right on a Mac, so if anybody can supply some simple
instructions, I would be very grateful. All the tutorials I have found deal
with converting MPEG-2 to MPEG-1, and not MPEG-1 to "toastable" MPEG-1.

    Thanks!

I have a few enhanced CDs with MPEGs (Pet Shop Boys, Christina Aguilera, etc) and a few with Quicktime MOVs (Craig David, etc). These videos are already of such poor quality, there is nothing you can do to improve them. I've also found they are compressed in non-standard resolutions and bizarre frame rates. All of them have mono sound.

The best thing you can do is to re-encode them with ffmpegX to a standard VCD, which will be acceptable in Toast, but it will look like crap on your television because of the source being so blocky to start.

My advice is either live with the crap quality, or just enjoy them on your hard drive.

  3. Well I would, were it not for the fact that they turn out quite well on a PC-made VCD. Stereo sound and everything!
