I have just come across this product in UK and am looking for a cost effective method of putting my Hi8 onto DVD. Has anyone had any experience of this product and/or can comment?

I'll assume that you have already read the reviews in the "Capture Cards" section to the left
I have this card. It's a basic BT8x8/BT878 card. It comes with neoDVD Standard which allows you to capture either MPEG1, MPEG2 or 'raw avi'. You can capture MPEG2 data in high, medium or low quaility. I can't quite remember the bitrates but:
High - 720x480 video~7000 kbits/s audio=256kbit/s
Medium - 352x480 video=3444 kbits/s audio=256kbits/s
Low - 352x240 video~2500 kbit/s audio=256kbit/s
For backing up VHS tapes to DVD I normally just capture at medium quaility, demux, and author in DVD Maestro. IMHO the quaility is more than good enough.
The main problem with the standard software is that (I can't find) any way to change the bitrates. I'd like to capture at 352x480 at 6000kbit/s but can't seem to make it do this (have to use VDub or some other program).
The card cost me $40 mail order (USA) and for what I paid and what it can do, I think it's more than worth it. YMMV
