I was surfing around and I found something called KVCD. I looked on their site and there are KVCD templates that can fit 10+ hours of video on a DVD disc with better than VCD quality. I was wondering if anybody has tried this and can inform me of how the results are. Thanks

I know were this is going...
LanEvo7,
This is a flame war ready to happen, but as I was saying... the best way to answer your question would be to tell you that you would have to try them out for yourself. What one person considers good quality, another person considers trash. I tried the KVCD\KDVD templates myself and did not really like them to much. Just ask yourself is it really worth making a DVD that is not compatible with most DVD players out there. I mean DVD-R's are still kind of up there in price, and DVDRW don't last long either.
Hope This Helps

Here's a sample: http://www.kvcd.net/kdvd-v2-sample.m2v
Here's an interesting thread related to that: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2073&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=540
Anyone who tells you that you can't put more than ~2 hours full DVD quality on a DVD-R is dead wrong 8)

kwag,
My first post is based solely on my trials and my experiences. I tried your KDVD template and my dvd player skipped and would slow down and the audio would go in and out of synch with the video. Everyone is entitled to speak thier mind, and I chose to exercise that right. My second post was not meant to downplay you or your templates. I was simply acknowledging that in the end it is up to the end user to decide wether he/she will use those templates or go on to something else. You don't always have to be so defensive, I am sure most people are able to make their own judgements on what they choose to do.

If people are looking for long play on a CD-R or DVD-R then trying KVCD is fine. I had a long movie and wanted to play it on my portable VCD/DVD player. KVCD did the trick. If I had to cram onto a DVD-R and didn't want a very low bitrate I'd try the DVD template.
The key word is try. Some players are picky (even with what you might think is "normal") video. Burn and try on your player. If you like, you have a new trick in your bag. If it does not work, don't flame but go on to another way to accomplish your task.Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
Thank you for all your help. I didn't mean to start any flamewars. Anyway, do you have to encode the video and audio seperately? Can I just change the settings on TMPGEnc so it will do them both together?

Lanevoy, since you've said youve been to kwag's site, why don't you ask your question there yourself. All the people there use the templates so nobody could help you better than them.
It's a good site. Nobody flames each other. If one has a problem or question all he needs to do is ask and the whole community tries to help out.
Sure some have had problems with the template since it's an xvcd it is espousing after all. Some get a really good output the first time and some had endless nights first before they got it working. The end result was when they got it working, they don't want to go back to standard vcd, cvd, or svcd anymore.
On another end, some never made it to work because the dvd doesn't support the template in the first place. Actually, with some tricks some of them can still be made to play it. All it needs is some serious dedication to work it out. People though doesn't have the time or just don't care, oh well ..... -
Actually, I was like epi. When I tried the kwag templates, the video stuttered every 4 or 5 seconds. I kept at it though because the video quality was clearly superior to the results I got from the normal/popular templates I was using, and I wanted that result. Like, putting a 3 hour movie in two cdrs with great quality of which I would need 3 cdrs to make an svcd that would match it's quality. It took a lot of my time and effort but I finally found a cure for my problem and now I'm a happy camper.

I did start posting there. I figured I could get a broader opinion here. Since this site specializes on encoding to different formats.

okay, got your point.
But don't think that the people there are pussies to other formats/templates either. Kwag's templates are just over a year old, most of the people there were already old time users of the standard formats/templates before they jumped from the bandwagon.
Since your original question was if anybody has tried the kwag templates and would like to know what the results were, I believe they are still the perfect people to answer you. Now, that you've said you already asked there, then I better keep quiet now.
