  1. I have an avi file that is 608x320, with audio in mpeg layer 3 instead of layer 2, and the video at 23 frames / sec and 129 kbps data rate.

How do I convert this to an Mpeg1 with correct settings for a VCD?

    TMPGenc won't even open it.

What is the error message in TMPGEnc, and did you adjust your Direct Show priorities?

  3. can u play the file perfectly in diretshow based players?
yea, put the priority up on directshow in Environmental Settings > VFAPI plugins...
If tmpgenc says cant open or unsuppported, its either a codec prob... or are u tryin to open across LAN? sometimes TMPGENC has probs w/ that...

    hope it helps

  4. Look to the left under Convert, you can find guides there for converting from divx/xvid to VCD. TMPGenc can not handle mp3 or ac3 audio streams. Open the file in VDub and generate a wav file (how to in guides), then use the divx file as video source, and the wav file as audio source for your encode.

Since your source is divx/xvid set:

    Source aspect ratio: 1:1 (VGA)
Video arrange method: full screen (keep aspect ratio)

This will center the video using the full horizontal resolution and letter box as necessary to perserve the aspect ratio (for what ever resolution you choose).

Hello...... I'm a newbie at this, but I'm trying to burn VCDs via Nero. They burn pretty well, but the dratted things cut off about an inch to an inch-and-a-half all around and I lose subtitles. Any clues on how to fix this out there? Heeeeeeeeeeeelp! Mucho Thankees.

Ysabet, I know you need help with your problem, and we will try to help you. But first, you need to go to the Forum Index, select Authoring, then New Topic. Post your question there. The reason is, you are in violation of forum policy, and what you are doing is attempting to hijack a topic. Not to worry, I will look for your post there, and try to help if I can. See you there!

I have "salvaged" some video files (mostly captures) that I was given by friends to make into DVD.

    What I did is:

    1. Open the file in VirtualDUB.
    2. Save the audio in uncompressed format
    3. Check the video framerate and make it 25 forcefully, then save the video file alone, using Hufyuv as a codec.
    4. Note the count of frames for the video. Divide this by 25 to get how many seconds the duration is.
    5. Open the audio file (WAV) in CoolEdit and go to shrink/Stretch to set the duration to the new value (as derived in step 4). Save the wav.

Now you will have a video file at 25fps and an audio file (uncompressed) that matches the video duration (i.e. is in sync).

Open them in Tmpgenc separatelly and encode as usual.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
