FFmpeg or 3ivx D4 4.03

I am surprised by the quality of 3ivx D4 4.03 (new version via Diva),
the speed/ quality of image/ fluidity is super but my vidéos can't bee read only on QTime player (they don't works on VLC or Mplayer) .
Who has an opinion on this codec and has make a test with it.
Why it don't work on my players?
Is it a real DivX encoder or not ?
How can i import subtitles in the movies ??
Does any-one use "titlelab" a soft found on the site 3ivix.com for subs ?

3ivx is slightly different than divx. both are MPEG-4 variants, and although the 3ivx plugin allows quicktime to read divx video, most divx players will not read 3ivx files. Although it's great for encoding/decoding on a G4 with quicktime, 3ivx not nearly as widely supported as divx.
