okay, i am trying to put 20 mpegs video clips onto one dvd-r as a big vcd. The mpegs were originally divX files that i converted. All the mpegs together equal 4.28 GB. Im starting to think that this is impossible. I have tried multiple things and tried to use the vcd to dvd-r guide put nothing works. When i tried the vcd to dvd-r guide it said that if you get the "this may take some time to render" message that you did something wrong.
I'm really confused now. It would appriciate it if someone could just show me how to puts those mpegs onto a dvd-r and be able to play on my standalone dvd player. I don't care about menus or quality really, as long as it plays it would be great.

Since this seems like a one-time project, why not download Video Studio 6 demo and drag and drop all twenty mpegs onto its storyboard, save the the project as a DVD file, and burn the file?
Hello. -
Using that program is not gonna work. I left it on over night because it was taking forever and when i woke up it was only 45% done and it was taking up 10 GB! Someone please help.

Of course the files will be bigger in MPEG-2. What you might have to do is experiment reencoding one clip in TMPGenc or other encoder such that the file isn't too big but quality is acceptable. This may be by lowering bitrate or by using Half D1 DVD resolution or both. Once you have the parameters acceptable, do all 20 clips and author with your favorite program (ulead DVD MovieFactory would be a good one, trial available).

There might be a couple of reasons this is not working.
DVD compatible VCD must have 48Khz audio, VCD audio is 44.1KHZ.
I have found that 4.18 GB is the maximum that the source files can equal because of multiplex overhead. Multiplex overhead data will increase as time length of video increases. If your source files are 4.28GB that only leaves 100MB for overhead; that is not enough and your build will not fit on the disc without re-encoding the video. -
I have an Idea, would this work?
convert all my mpegs using TMPGEnc to mpeg2 with the NTSC (low resolution) template in the wizard. But put the % of disc capacity as low as it will go (which will put the birate at 750). then put all the clips in ulead moviefactory 2 and burn them on a dvd-r. -
Half D1 - make your own template by loading DVD template, then load the extras\unlock template, then change horizontal resolution to 352. You might also select variable bit rate and tweek the bitrate according to the # minutes and the DVDhRhelp.com bitrate calculator.

What is the advantage of converting the files to mpeg2? Wouldnt it be just as easy to leave them as mpeg1 and burn them to the dvd that way? That is what i have been doing and it seems to work very well with no quality loss from rencoding them to mpeg2.

open the MPEGAV folder from your VCD... rename the DAT file to MPG, encode it to a compatibile DVD MPEG file (it has to be DVD compatibile!) use TMPGEnc or MainConcept encoder for that (encode it like VIDEO AND AUDIO... M2V and WAV for TMPGEnc... MPV and MPA for Main concept... NOT a MPEG file youll have trouble with it if your using DVDMaestro), then author the DVD, id reccomend you DVDMaestro if you need subtitles or MyDVD otherwise, those are most simple tools and best result as ive tested many of the software... burn the files youll get by COMPILING on to a blank DVD like a simple data... VCD TO DVD... bang!
