I've been capturing using Vdub at 720 x 576 with the PicVideo mjpec codec and running TMPGEnc to get my dvd mpeg, but as we all know, despite TMPGEnc being superb it's very slow.
I've been given a demo of CCE (the logo at the bottom of the screen doesn't bother me) and can't seem to import any avi's.
I'm sure this isn't how it's supposed to be used but it's an encoder right?
I suppose what I'm asking is can I use CCE for converting my avi's to mpeg2 dvd compliant mpeg's and if not, what are my alternatives?
    Thanks,
    Will

I cannot say for sure about CCE, but since you and Virtual Dub are "good buddies", why not let him take a crack at your MPEG-2 files with the MPEG-2 version of Virtual Dub. Look for it in the Tools section. Besides, I have heard you have to have "deep pockets" to afford CCE.

Will do, thanks for the tip.

    Yeah, I hear $2000
As I say, I've done a couple of dvd backup's (as a test) and there's a big(-ish) CCE logo in the bottom which is of course no good for movies but for the stuff Im capturing is fine.
    Thanks again,
    Will

Having a bit of trouble finding it to be honest (although I have downloaded the latest version of Vdub (always nice to have!).
    I can't find a 'tools' section at http://www186.pair.com/vdub/index
Of course there's a 'tools' tab on the program itself, but this is simply to sparse the captured avi.
    Can you help me out?

My fault, for not being clearer. When I said the Tools section, I meant DVDHelp's Tool section. Anyway: Click here.

    Thanks Tommyknocker, much appreciated.
Unless I'm missing something that gives me the option to try convert vobs files to mpeg2, right?
I'm wanting to convert avi to mpeg2

If you want to convert your files to MPEG-2, you can do it with the demo version on TMPGEnc for 30 days. Or spend $48.00 (my choice) to get TMPGEnc Plus to do your MPEG-2 work for you whenever you want.

    Hi again.
Thanks, but I have the registered version of TMPGEnc Plus (see first post) and I was looking for any alternatives, either free/shareware or otherwise

Get a copy of FitCD (in the Tools section). This should allow you to input your .avi and create an Avisynth script which will load into CCE for encoding. The script will allow the resizing/cropping necessary to ensure CCE will encode a DVD-compliant mpeg.

You will first need to download Avisynth. http://www.avisynth.org

Excellent, I'll give that a go this week.
I capture to dvd compliant 720 x 576 mpeg2 so avisynth shouldn't have much to do, right?
    Thanks again,
    Will

Probably not, but sometimes you can load an Avisynth script (.avs) where an .avi won't load directly.

Yep. AVISynth is a life saver. I've had a few AVI's that wouldn't load directly into CCE, but would load via AVISynth. If your capture is DVD compliant in regards to resolution and bitrate, then you should be able to drop it directly onto CCE, assuming all of your codecs are installed.

can't seem to import any avi's
What codecs/format is your captured AVI using? Did you receive an error in CCE?

Something else to try is Canopus DV File Converter (also in the Tools section) which converts losslessly between various DV formats.

48stereo, 720 x 576 captured in Vdub with the PicVideo MJPEG codec at quality setting 15.
CCE just simply tells me 'an unsupported file format' but only seems to let me open a certain type of file, (CLE or something, I can't quite remember).
I'll check tonight when I get home and post back.
    Thanks,
    Will

To load an avi into CCE, right click in the CCE Window and add the file. I think you are trying to open an avi with the fuction that opens encoding scripts in CCE.

I think ronnylov is on the right track. If your getting prompted for an 'ECL' file, then you probably selected "FILE | OPEN | PROJECT" from the menu's. You should be using "FILE | OPEN | FILE" to open an AVI or AVS file. You can also do as ronnylov suggests, by right clicking on the main CCE window main, and select ADD. You can also simply Drag n' Drop your AVI onto the CCE window.
