It was in the paper today. HP is spending $25 billion to buy Compaq. Both companies showed a loss this recent quarter. With the merger HP will be slightly smaller than IBM. So much for competition at retail stores. If you read this Baldrick I think the next survey on the home page should be what brand name computer you have ie Compaq, HP, IBM, Mac, Gateway, or Special Order Company or Build it Yourself. I think that would be an interesting survey if not yet done. I didn't check what ones have been done before posting this.

    hp- celeron 533mhz, 128mb ram, 10gig hdd, 48x cd
    gateway- 566mhz celeron, 128mb ram, 10 gig hdd, 48cd
    compaq- 833mhz, 256mb sdram, 3 hdd's equaling 80gig, 6x dvd & 4x4x24x cd-rw

I think HP sucks almost as bad as Gateway. HPs have such small cases and integrate a lot of their motherboards so you can't upgrade very much. At least Compaq made computers with large cases that you could add stuff to it. Besides, Compaq has/had some decent deals on systems. Most of these ordering places start with either or when it comes to DVD/CDRW drives and start with small 20-30 gig hard drives that you have to pay more to get 75-80 gig. You can get a decent Compaq with a lot of stuff for around $1200. I am NOT technically inclined so I am always browsing the CompUSA and Best Buy ads. I could never build my own or at least don't have the faith to.
