  1. I really would like to convert an XVCD to VCD or SVCD. I can't seem to do it in TMPGEnc. Does anyone know of a method how?

    Thanks for the help

  2. You should be able to load the XVCD into TMPGenc and then re-encode at CBR 1150 standard VCD

You can also use DVD2AVI, VFAPIConverter, or AVISynth, and MPEG2DEC.

From those, you simply drop it back into whatever encoder you normally use. Look in the Guides section for converting MPEG to MPEG. Like this one:

The basic principals are the same, regardless of which format (vcd, svcd) you choose to convert it to.

What sort of problem did you have using TMPGenc?

  6. It gives me a file error like, "incompatible format" or something of that nature. I have burned the XVCD.mpg on disc and watched it on my dvd player, so I know that it works. TMPGEnc just wont work. I am going to try it with nthe dvd2avi method.

CaseyComb, if you expect any sort of help, you should change your method of communicating. You went completely off base on my reply as well, implying I had called you a moron, which is not the case. MpegEncoder's post was probably meant in good humor. Your reply was a little over the top to say the least.

The fastest method would be using DVD2AVI. Save it as a project file in DVD2AVI. Open the Project file using AVISynth, and MPEG2DEC. Frame serve to your encoder of choice.

  13. DVD2AVI wont open it. However, I did manage to frameserve it using VirtualDub-MPEG2 v1.4.13 mod. This version seems to open any .mpg file you throw at it.

Out of curiousity, what error did DVD2AVI give you?

  15. No real error message. It would either freeze or not open the file at all.

  16. Just use virtual dub to save it as an avi, then reconvert the avi using tmpgenc. There is obviously something wrong with your xvcd file.

I agree although some versions of DVD2AVI can be very unstable. You should be using version 1.76. You can also try 'cleaning' your MPEG. Use any media cleaner, or something like VCD Gear to try and clean it up. You'll find other tools in the Tools section. If there is corruption in it, which DVD2AVI can't deal with, then chances are, VirtualDub will have the same issues.
