I decrypted a dvd for backup purposes and have several .vob files.

I used VOB2MPG to convert many .vob's into one .mpg so that during playback, you don't have to keep selecting files to finish a movie.

But now when I play the movie, I have no menus. If I pause the movie in my Dlink media server, and then hit play, it goes back to the front.

Did the decryption process lose the menu?
Did the conversion from .vob to .mpg lose the menu?
    Is the menu still there?

Also, another side note is that the audio during the playback with the Dlink is poor. We need to really crank up the sound to hear it. But i can live with that for now.

    Any help is appreciated it.
    Thanks,
    /chgoguy

The menu could have been lost during the decryption process depending on how you did it.
If the menu was still on there after decrypting....it will surely be gone after using VOB2MPG. An mpeg file does not contain a menu.

VOB2MPEG will just extract the MPEG video and audio file from the VOBs. Menus not included. If you want the original menus, you might use something like DVD Shrink instead.

What format is the audio? There are programs to increase the audio levels unless that's just a player problems.

    And welcome to our forums.

Reply to Heck54, I used dvd decrypter for ripping. does it remove the menus?

if dvd decrypter doesn't remove the menu, is there another alternative to creating one mpg AND have the menu?

Reply to redwudz, not sure how i determine what format the audio is in. I just ran dvd decrypter than vob2mpg with the defaults.

what other progams will help increase the audio levels?

    thanks!

You can use DVD Decrypter to create an .ISO disc image file of the DVD, which a number of players will play. If you need a smaller file, you can always run it through DVD Shrink, as redwudz mentioned.

You cannot have an "mpeg" file and the menu. You need to save the entire DVD.
DVDDecrypter can do both while ripping it to your hard drive..."movie only" or
full DVD....or even a combination of both.
A DVD is more than just an mpeg file.
An Mpeg file alone cannot be a DVD.

Drop the MPEG or VOB into MediaInfo or Gspot and it will tell you the audio format. Probably AC3 5.1 or stereo.

Then you can demux (Separate the audio from the video) and change the audio levels, then mux it back with the video. AC3 Normalizer is a program to adjust AC3 audio levels. Several Demux/mux programs in our 'Tools' section. https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/video-de-multiplexers

Other ways to do all this also.
