  1. Ok I just drop avi files in Ulead Video Studio and then render the dvd file. The relative settings I use are: Field order A, 29.97fps, 720x480, ntsc dvd, 2400 vbr. The (hard)subtitles get cut off on the bottom of the screen so the bottom line always gets halfway cutoff(vertically), which makes it very hard to read. I plays properly in the preview window before and after it's encoded but not on the tv so I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. Anyone know what to do please?

ONE THING I NOTICED: IF I ZOOM IN WITH MY DVD PLAYER I CAN GO DOWN TO THE BOTTOM AND READ THE SUBS. BUT THIS OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T DO ME ANY GOOD. I THINK IT MAY BE A GOOD INDICATOR OF THE PROBLEM THOUGH. THE WHOLE PICTURE IS THERE IT'S JUST NOT FORMATTED CORRECTLY, I GUESS. ANY HELP???

It's called "overscan". It's been discussed at great length many times in these forums, do a search for "overscan" and you will find a number of explanations and solutions.

  5. ok this time I used the frame size 352x240 which is the smallest that vstudio lets you use for dvd template. It only improved it a tiny bit. Any suggestions? I can't use tmpgenc but I can use virtual dub to resze it somehow but I don't know how or if it would even help. The source files are divx 5.02 and 640x480. Don't know if that makes a difference either.

  6. The only thing I can think of is to make black borders , but so the borders get cut off on the tv screen because of the overscan. This would probably solve the problem right? Does anyone know how to do this???

That's how you're supposed to do it, and it's what you were supposed to get from reading the other overscan topics. In VirtualDub's resizer you can use the "expand frame and letterbox image" option to add borders.
