i just had to post this this morning as soon as i came home from work and finished reading the article. In the Chicago Suntimes there is this article about motorola developing a chip that would run at 70 to 80 GHz by the year 2003. thats right!!!!! I was shocked!!!! (Anyone got a towel) imagine that speed in our computers!!!! what do you think you can do with that speed. they also mention that it would be possible to invent things that we would imagine with such speed. I cant wait why can't it be 2003 now!!! oh the pain.
Well let me know what you think..

i doubt well have them in 3 years, 10 maybe...only because of the heat issues.

Nah, sounds about right... who was it, IBM, that developed a 3 GHz chip a year or two ago? Couldn't do much... specialized applications, VERY limited instruction set. Nowhere near the complexity of a CPU that would go into a PC.
This is just the same type of announcement. I figure, using basic extrapolation of the speed vs efficiency of processors, a 50 Ghz would be EXPECTED using existing technology about that time. This is a tad faster, thus a little bit of a big deal.
Too bad speed =/= performance. Look at the pitiful P4 for proof. Heck, in a few programs and games I like, a POOR OLD 1.4 GHz Athlon STILL beats a 2.0 GHz P4... that's just sad.
