  1. Hi again,

Sorry for the inconvenient, but what format do I need to use with my home movie, so that we can play it in a dvd player? will it be fine with mpg or dat format? or is it avi.

    thanks in advanced,

  2. Tell us a bit more about what format your home movie is? A digital camcorder with a firewire output (have a firewire card & capture software)? Analog video?
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'

  3. oh sorry,

I am capturing from a digital 8 camcorder with firewire. right now I am experimenting with Movie Maker, I understand that you can only save the movie in wmv format with MM. I have been reading a lot of other posts, which i am now totally confused..hehehe

so, I just want to make a home movie of my trips from around the world, and burn it onto my Sony dru500a dvd burner. So this way I can share with friends and without having to go back to the camcorder when i want to watch some clips.

I takin I have to encode avi? fom camcorder to mpg2? with tmpgenc ?

    thanks..

  4. 1. Capture with firewire to avi
    2. Edit, cut, add titles, transitions
    3. Add DVD menu
    4. Make DVD (it includes conversion of AVI to DVD compliant MPEG2 and authoring)
    5. Burn DVD

That was simple description what needs to be done and can be done with one package (for example Pinnacle Studio 8 ).

    1. Capture with firewire to avi
    2. Edit, cut, add titles, transitions
    3. Save result as one big avi file
    4. Convert to MPEG2 that is DVD compliant
    5. Import MPEG2 file to authoring software and create DVD Menu and author it to disk (VIDEO_TS directory)
    6. Burn to DVD disc.

This was longer version and each step can be done with different tool that will fit your needs.

The best way to start will be to read HOW TO GUIDES here in your left bar.

    Do you find it user-friendly?
    I'm going the Vdub, TMPGEnc (Plus) and Ulead Movie Factory option at the minute but want a program where I can;
    * Cut an avi. into several parts
    * Add a date and title maybe
    * Fade out to black the end of one scene, fade out to black the beginning of the next and then join.
I don't mind then encoding with TMPGEnc and authoring with Ulead Movie Factory again, I'm used to these programs.
That's all I need but I find Ulead MF a doddle (I'm afraid my experience is limited in video editing so I need a program aimed at a novice).
    Thanks,
    Will

  7. Silky31, I personaly think that PS8 is very easy to handle and can do all your "*". I am not sure how reliable are they but ther is good deal on it at Outpost.com (after MIR).

  8. Pinnicle studio is better then Adobe Premier? I just heard great reviews on Premier, but not PS8.

  9. No it is not better. It is much cheaper. It is easier to use, especially for newbie. It has enought features for me to make my home video and it can author DVD. What is better is up to you. It depends on your needs.

You can request Trial CD, but no MPEG2 support will be on Trial versio.
