Hello everybody!
I recently bought a Pinnacle DC10 card, that comes with Studio 8.
The card captures in AVI with hardware MJPEG compression.
I can capture video with Studio 8 and then convert it ( with Studio8 ) to DVD-Mpeg 2.
Problem is, if I try to convert the MJPEG AVI with TMPGEnc, I get an "unsupported AVI format" error.
But I can play the AVI with the Media Player, thus the codec is installed.
How can I make TMPGEng convert my DC-10 MJPEG AVIs?
Thankyou.
Bye,
Max.

Have you tried installing a MJPEG Codec?
Have you tried capturing by VirtualDub?
Have you tried frameserving AVI file with VirtualDub?
I've got that card and I have to capture under w98 because VirtualDub cannot recognize it under WXP. When I convert captured AVIs with original codec, it takes twice more time than PicVideo MJPEG codec.
Good luck. -
I read the answer to your problem , in another topic , funnily enough last night , its something with the Vfapi Plugin priorities , AVI VFW needs to be -2 , er I think . It was on one of the topics last night in vcdhelp .
I presume you can search for it . -
Nope... should I? Since I can play with MediaPlayer the AVis captured with Studio8, it means the codec is there... otherwise MP wouldn't be able to play it.Originally Posted by AngusMacGyver
Yes... but it doesn't recognize the DC10...Originally Posted by AngusMacGyver
Nope... since VDub won't handle the card, I didn't do anything else with it...Originally Posted by AngusMacGyver
I tried VDub with the card under XP... may I should give W98 a try.Originally Posted by AngusMacGyver
Anyway, what do you use to convert from MJPEG-AVI to MPEG2? TMPGEnc? How?
Thanks for your help.

You need to output the captured AVI, after applying any edits, to AVI using the latest Indeo codec. The MJPEG used by Pinnacle is not compatible with TMPGEnc as far as I know. This is time consuming but necessary if you don't want to use the inferior Pinnacle MPEG encoder. There may be other ways to accomplish this but I was not able to get them to work. I had so much trouble with this unstable product that I took it out of my computer and bought an external analog to digital converter (Canopus). Good luck.

in the other topic (it was DonPedro as I recall) gave the advice to save with the digital codec after edits as it makes it lossless . See if you can search for my posts and that`ll bring up this topic .You need to output the captured AVI, after applying any edits, to AVI using the latest Indeo codec

I made a slight mistake , the info about the AVI VFW prioity was in a magazine - not in the forum , dohhh . Anyway the article says "the AVI VFW might be set to -2 , and set it to a higher priority . TMGenc will now accept AVI files created by Miro (Pinnacle)video motion JPeg capture codec . "
My copy of TMPGenc accepted frameserved video (from vdub) from a miro capture (I also have a 3rd party mjpeg installed as well - is this why?) , but I didn`t change from -2 . -
It's not necessary that VirtualDub recognizes the video card capture to frameserve. You can capture normally with Studio 8 and after that, you can open AVI file in VirtualDub and frameserve it to TMPGEnc.Originally Posted by "superfresko
To convert AVI to MPEG2 you can use TMPGEnc, for example.
