    If I have an AVI with 5.1 audio and DVDAuthor won't recognise the AVI, how can I convert it to something that DVDAuthor will recognise and preserve the 5.1 audio (and both 5.1 and stereo if it has both preferably.)?

    You could try avstodvd and convert to a dvd compliant mpeg2. Import in tmpgenc dvd author and it should not reconvert.
