Only been on this site a week, knew nothing before this about backing up a DVD to VCD/SVCD . Wow what a lot to take in!! I think I've cracked it though, let me tell you what I've done.
SmartRipper - DVDX - TMPGenc (For VCD header trick as my DVD wont play SVCD) - Nero. I only tried first 2-3 mins to see if it worked (couldn't stand the suspense of waiting 10hrs), and it did!!!!
Questions;
1) Is it really this easy or have I struck lucky, cause there seem to be an awful lot of posts about problems people are having? Or is this in different formatting and the more complex stuff?
2) Where do you save your 'vob' files when ripping? Mine go in Windows -Temp then create a file here with the title of the DVD?
3) Obviously I haven't done any 'chaptering'. Presume I do this after DVDx and before VCD header trick?
4) Finally, I've seen the question asked before but no-one responded. Maybe the answer is sooo obvious. Once I have a SVCD, to make further copies, do I just burn another in Nero?
Sorry for the questions, I couldn't find the answers anywhere.

1) It really can be this easy. I too have had no problems using this method.
2) I have two hard drives and I was able to direct the ripped files as well as all my project files to the secondary hard drive (away form the system drive)
3) I don't know about the chaptering. Haven't tried that yet either.
4) Burn away!!
