I'm writing this from a friends iMac (I'm a PC person).
I do this everyday on the PC, but am not familure with the Mac. I've sucessfully copied one of my own DVD titles to his HD (video_ts folder).

We installed Toast Titanium 5 on his Mac (OS 10) and attempted to burn the folder to a DVD-RW by selecting (Other), then DVD from the Toast menu.

During the burn process, Toast displays "copying video_ts...", but it never reports copying the rest of the files in the folder.

The burn process finishes sucessfully, inc. verification, but the disc won't play on his Mac or his set top (which WILL play my other DVD-RW's).

I've checked the disc using the Mac's finder, and all the files appear to be there.

Anyone know if I'm doing something wrong???

    Thanks.

  2. chances are you are copying an encrypted dsisc.

That will never work without using a De-CSS process.

No, then he would not have been able to copy it to the HD.

Can you open the DVD player app and select 'select video_ts folder' and play it that way?

You have to have 2 requirements fulfilled for it to work correctly:
    1) The VIDEO_TS folder needs to be unencrypted. You can do this using DVD Backup (http://195.134.134.27/downloads/macdvd/) to rip it to the HD. If you're trying to copy a DVD-R movie, then you should be golden by copying the VIDEO_TS folder in the Finder, since it already unencrypted.
    2) When you make your DVD with Toast in DVD mode, You make a new disk first, and place the VIDEO_TS folder in that disk. If you just drag a VIDEO_TS folder to Toast, it will make a new disk named VIDEO_TS containing the files inside that folder. Another way to do it is to put the VIDEO_TS folder in another folder with the name of the movie, and dragging that onto Toast. Then, hit record, and enjoy the movie.

    No, the disc isn't encrypted.
It's an adult video I previously copied (copy of a copy).

I believe I am doing something wrong in Toast. As I've said, I've backed up many DVD's - on a PC. I know nothing about Macs.

WiseWeasel, what exactly do you mean "make a new disk first"?

I started oast and clicked/held down "Other" until a menu opened. I then selected "DVD". Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS folder to the window and all the DVD files (ifo, bup, vob) showed up.

The disc seemed to burn OK, and if I check the disc with Finder, all the files are there - BUT THE DISC WONT PLAY! Not on the set top, and not in the Mac using the DVD playing software that comes with OSX.
But I did download a freeware video file player and the VOB's on the disc will play seperately.

This is why I assume I must have burned the DVD incorrectly.

    Oh, I see.

When you drag a folder onto Toast, it assumes that the name of the folder is the name of your desired disc. In other words, if you select DVD and drag on the VIDEO_TS folder, you get a DVD called VIDEO_TS with no folders in it, just VOB, IFO, etc.

Select DVD from the 'other' menu, then click the icon that says 'new DVD'. Then add the VIDEO_TS folder. No you have a DVD called 'untitled' (or whatever you change it to) containing a folder called VIDEO_TS. This is the structure needed for a disc to play.

    I see!

No, I did not do that (select New DVD).
I will report back after I try it.
