OK, so I've tried everything so far. I re-formatted my hard drive and re-installed XP Pro. I then re-installed Nero 5.5.10 and Nero Vision Express 1.04.2 (both the latest versions) w/ the MPEG 2 plug in.
I thought it was an ASPI or windows media player problem or conflict but now I am baffled. When I first installed the program it burned great DVDs on my DVR-105 (with the exception of the audio bug). Video was very clean.
Now whenever I attempt to burn a DVD Video to either the hard disk OR the DVR-105 I get wavy lines and distortion in the video. I do not understand how a program could work fine and then do this.
I have a SCSI Ultra 160 hard disk with Adaptec 19160 SCSI host. I also have an IDE had disk on the secondary IDE. I have tried burning to both hard disks and also directly to a DVD-R with the same bad video result.
Installed the latest ASPI drivers from Adaptec but as it turns out Nero does not need those from XP since XP uses SCSI Pass Through Interface instead of ASPI. Nero uses it's own ASPI.
Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?
Is it a problem with the SCSI disk?
I am tempted to install XP Pro onto the IDE disk and see what happens. I even tried installing the Nero program onto the IDE hard drive.

Update on my Nero burn/playback problems.
Just removed Nero completely, re-booted and then ran Norton Windoctor to remove about 66 unwanted registry entries, re-booted again and re-installed older version of Nero Burning ROM 5.5.9.19 and Nero Vision Express 1.04.1 w/ MPEG 2 plug in.
Burned a video to hard disk and we have success!
(Still think that having to burn to HD and then edit w/ IFOedit just to get LPCM audio is cumbersome. When is Nero going to fix this?)
So I guess this means that Nero VE 1.04.2 doesn't work that well with XP Pro?
Any thoughts? -
Spoke too soon.
I get a "better" video picture but it is awfully pixelated now.
Just unacceptable for a DVD.
I am giving up on Nero. It just isn't working for me.
Must be something happening in the transcoding process because the .avi capture file plays and sounds great. -
I hate to ask a stupid question...but HOW do you get nero to burn to hard disk?
I tried creating an image file, but I just get one file...
?
thanks

Hi dp,
The option labeled "Write to Hard Disk Folder" is available using Nero Vision Express. What it does is takes your .AVI capture file and transcode it and then burns it to a folder on your hard drive.
I have just about given up on Nero. I thought capturing DV from my DV camcorder and then burning it to DVD would yield better results. I can't get Nero to burn a clean video.
Bought Dazzle DVD Complete so I am going to try that.
