  1. Hi
I´ve tried making a svcd from a avi adding subs with tmpgenc. The result comes out fine, but the file size is about 200 mb bigger compared to what size I calculated it to be. I´ve made several svcd´s before without subs and all of them came out the size I wanted. I´m using a bitrate calculator. So my question is, are subs adding size to the output file? And if so is there anyway to calculate the filesize when adding subs?

    Thanks in advance

I didn´t even know that´s possible to add subtitle with TMPGEnc but I suggest that you try add subtitle with Virtual Dub instead:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/srtsubsvirtual.htm

It doesn´t take longer time by the way using Virtual Dub but the guide says that you should save the frameserving to anything.vdr but if you can´t open it up in TMPGEnc then save the frameserve in Virtual Dub to anything.vdr.avi

  3. I´m sorry I explained badly. I´m adding subtitles in Virtudub with the same guide posted in the previous message and then load the vdr-file to TmpgEnc and start encoding.
Last night I gave it another try, lowered the bitrate so it would fit on two 650mb discs. Exactly the same result as when I used higher bitrates. Both files came out 1,67gb! My burner can only burn 700mb cd´s, it doesn´t help to cut out the end credits and make it fit and I don´t want to have it on 3 discs.

Any ideas what I have done wrong??

Which version do you use of TMPGenc, there was a bug in TMPGEnc 2.59 which made your encoded movies bigger than calculated but there is a new versiom out there now which fixed that bug.
You can install it from here:

  5. Hi
I´m using TmpgEnc 2,58, but I´ve never had this problem with wrong size before I was adding subs.

At a given bitrate and a given movie length, the output file size is exactly the same no matter what's in the movie. Subs or no subs. The problem must be something else, not the added subs. You don't say what bitrate setting you use (VBR, CBR, CQ) so what's wrong is hard to tell... Only explanation that takes subs in account is that when using CQ at a fixed quality, may get higher bitrate with subs than without. Not sure about this tho.
