  1. Hi,

I am a newbie, and I have downloaded an avi file that I am trying to convert to MPEG to create a VCD. I am using TMG trial version,

It is telling me, when I select the file that i want to convert that it cannot open because of Unsupported file type.

I tried to find out what type of AVI file it is, but all the info says AVI.

    Thanks for the help,

    Rebel

If you are a newbie, like me, should we read the newbie guides before trying this? Anyway, if we had, we would have seen this:

If you get an error message when opening the video or audio like file unsupported....

Be sure that you have installed the DivX Codecs (both DivX 3.11, 4 and 5) and also try with the Nimo Codec Pack. If that does not work try to change the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.

Oh yes, and before you ask where we get such tools as Nimo Codec Pack and DivX Codecs, we look in the Tools section at left.
    Hello.

  3. Hi

I did read that, but I thought it didnt go along to my error.

But, thanks for pointing out that it did.

This quote from the troubleshooting guide solved the problem:

DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.

I did it and it work,

    Thanks for the help

  5. I cannot convert my avi file to mpeg in TMPGEnc.

I've read the newbie guides and tried increasing the directshow priority to 3, also I've downloaded all the recommended codecs but it still won't work.

I've previewed the file in VirtualDub and it is playing fine there, if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

I really, really want to get this movie copied onto disk!!

I upgraded my version of TMPGEnc and when I tried to open the avi it worked!! (I noticed there was no sound) then I realised my file was too big so I decided to go back into VirtualDub and split the avi.

I followed the instructions and managed to split the file into two files. I also saved the audio as a wav file.

Now when I go into TMPGEnc I am getting the problem I had originally, can't open the file, unsupported!! I'm at my wits end with this, it seems to be problem after problem. The movie will play fine in VirtualDub so I know there is nothing wrong with it. I've also run it through Gspot and everything is in working order.

Somebody please help me, I'm at a loss as what to do next!!

Basically I have 2 problems, first I can't convert the avi in TMPGEnc. Secondly, if I manage to get the file opened there is no sound!!

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

    Thank you!!!
