My Pioneer has started to stuter on some of my CVDs. I suspect the lens may need cleaning. Can I use a regular cd player cleaner ? Or is there a special DVD cleaner ?
These CVDs play fine in my Norcent DP300 and my Pioneer had always played CVDs flawlessly in the past.

I purchased a DVD lens cleaner and my CVDs still stutter. I tried to clean the player 5 times.
Is my Pioneer now heading toward the junk pile. Any suggestions on how I maybe able to revive it ?
I did purchase an extended warranty on it but Future Shop now longer carries Pioneer models. What other brand would be close to this player. It MUST play SVCDs and CVDs....
Thanks -
Lenses don't generally get dirty - that's sales baloney to sell overpriced lens cleaners.
More likely the laser is just going bad. As good as the Pioneer is (I also have a 333), MANY new players now match it for playback flexibility. Check the link to the left for details. I myself will soon trade in my Pioneer for a Sony multi-disc player with Progressive scan.
Why does it matter if the store doesn't carry Pioneer? If I bought an extended warranty, I would raise holy hell until I got service. If they can't service it and it's still in the period, DEMAND a new player of another brand (again, check player compatibility data). -
I really love my Pioneer DV333 and I'm hoping that it can be repaired as on this site it is the second best rated player.

I phoned the retailer (Future Shop) and advised them of my problems and my extended warranty. I explained running the lens cleaner multiple times. They are adamant that either the laser needs to be reclaibrated or there is stuck dust....
SO....
Out of frustration I opened my tray and sprayed some compressed air into it.
Since then I've been able to play three CVDs without any problems.... -
I've played several more CVDs in my Pioneer 333 and it's still working flawlessly.
Anyone ever try the compressed air trick before ? -
Not on a DVD. That's great that it works. Last thing I did with compressed air was clean out my main PC. Then I turn it on & the power supply goes POOF! I think a dust bunny went where it shouldn't have...
