  8. I'm going to take a stab at a slightly modified format of this report so that I can summarize all of the media that I have used thus far. All media listed at the bottom applies to this configuration:

Authoring software: DVD-5 ripped w/ SmartRipper
Burning software: RecordNow (included w/ drive)
    Firmware version: 1.0d
PC DVD playback software: ATI DVD Player
    PC DVD-ROM drives: DRU-500A
Standalone DVD players: Toshiba SD3109, Apex PD-50

    Fail/OK Format below follows "Media (P/N): DRU-500A / SD3109 / PD-50"

    Sony DVD-R (DMR47): OK / OK / OK
    Sony DVD+RW (DPW47L1): OK / Failed / Failed
    TDK DVD-RW (DVD-RW47S): OK / Failed / OK
    TDK DVD+RW (DVD+RW47S): OK / Failed / OK
    Philips DVD+R (DVDR/008): OK / Failed / OK
    Verbatim DVD-R (94490): OK / OK / OK

I also have an unopened 25-pack of Fuji DVD+R disks. Is there a consensus on this media? (It would be nice to know before I break the package open.)

I also have had absolutely no success with the current version of Nero Burning ROM.

    Firmware version: 1.0d
    PC DVD playback software: PowerDVD

    Verbatim DVD-R (94077): Failed / Failed / Failed
    Philips DVD+R (DVDR/008): OK / OK / OK

Test After the 1.0d firmware upgrade:

Ritek DVD-R 1X (General Use): OK / OK / OK
    (http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=view_item&id=242&cata=1&s_cata=88)

This is the numbers of successful DVD videos that I burned for each media after the firmware upgrade:
Sony DVD+RW (DPW47L1): 20 times (This is my test disc prior to DVD-
    R)
    Sony DVD+R (DPR47): 3 times
Princo DVD-R (General Use): 0 (5 out of 5 failures)
    Meritline DVD-R 2X (General Use): 10 times
    Ritek DVD-R 1X (General Use): 15 times

I'm going to stay with the 2X from Meritline. I know it's $1.54 a piece but it's a TRUE 2X and I can't find anything else that's reliable and cheaper then $1.54. If anyone finds anything that's reliable and that's 2X for the Sony DRU-500A then could you please post and let me know.

    Thanks!!!!

  12. I use DVD-Video template in NERO and get this
ERROR: << Could not perform end of Disc-At-Once >>
    at the lead out process

I get this error on all brand of DVD-+R type (TDK DVD-R 2x is ok), I never get this error on DVD-+RW type.

---TRICK TO FIX THIS TYPE OF ERROR ON DVDR---
I use Nero to burn to the end and got this error.
    Exit NERO.
    Open ROXIO CD-Creator Platinum v5.3.2x
    Choose DVD Project.
Create text file and add to the project. Then burn to the error DVDR.
The popup box will ask to FIX IGNORE CANCEL.
Click IGNORE and wait until the end of process.
The DVDR is readable in any stand alone DVD player and PC.

---WHY I DONT USE ROXIO SOFTWARE TO WRITE WHOLE DVDR?---
Because the DVDR WON'T play in stand alone DVD player. Same issue with NTI CD-Maker Platinum Software. Roxio software is errorless but it wont play in stand alone DVD player.

    ---MY HARDWARE---
    DVD Media:
    * FUJI 25pk DVD+R (FAIL - but fixable in ROXIO)
    * VERBATIM 15pk 2.4x DVD+R (FAIL - but fixable in ROXIO)
    * TDK 1pk DVD+R 2.4x (FAIL - but fixable in ROXIO)
    * TDK 4pk DVD-R 2x (PASS on 1 tried)
    * SONY DVD+RW (OK)

    PC DVD: liteon 16x (OK)

    Standalone DVD Player:
    * Sony 560D - play dvdr if follow above instruction
    * Sony 755V - play dvdr if follow above instruction

any idea why NERO fail to burn at the end? or why Roxio dvdr fail to play in stand alone dvd player? thanks

  15. Donpedro: Your template is too confusing.

    I think the best is:

    - Computer: CPU + Board + OS + HDDs + DVD-ROM
    - Software (Recording / Authoring)
    - Recorder firmware

AND THEN ALL MEDIA TESTED (don´t include part numbers, etc, NO ONE is going to see that!) AND PLAYERS TESTED (Some people are doing very well in the way they expose their tests!)

    My System:

    - Computer: Athlon XP 1700+ @ 1900+ / Soltek VIAKT133 / WinXP / 2x 7200rpm Maxtor ATA100 / ASUS 16x DVD-ROM
    - Software: Nero 9.9.5.17
    - Firmware: 1.0c

    Players: Nintaus N9901 / Mustek v560 / Asus 16x DVD-ROM

    Media:

Intenso (VERY cheap) DVD-R: OK / OK / OK
    SONY DVD+RW: Failed / Failed / OK
    PIONEER DVD-R (2x): OK / OK / OK

PS: some people are having problems with it (IDE, ...). At least, until now (2 weeks), I never had a problem. 8)

  19. Part of the fields in the template donpedro is using were ones I suggested in the other thread, especially for us Video related users when the results can differ when using different software for authoring and burning (each needs listed), and depending on the playback device as well.

It's best if everyone sticks to this same template. It's very straight forward, doesn't take up a lot of space, and easy to read.

  21. I recently bought one of these drives and have had mixed results. I am using rev 1.0d firmware with Nero Nero 5.5.9.17. Intenso is a brand I have used a lot with CDRW drives and have found them to be very reliable ( & cheap ). My tests suggest that they are carrying forward there good track record into the DVD domain. Time will tell . What I did find interesting is that I have yet to find a DVD +R media that works. I've only tried 2 brands so far and have lucked out. I hear Bigpockets ar doing 2x Datasafe/dDatawrite 2x DVD-R's which work at 2x on the Sony drives. Probably woth checking out. )

I bought the datawrite classics to use. All burned data 100% without a single error. But wouldnt work at all in the xbox if burnt on the sony. Burn them on a pioneer 104 and they are fine in the xbox. Didnt burn any video data on them unfortunately before i gave them away.
Waiting on some TDK and datawrite classic with the Ritek dye (different to the above disks) tomorrow from svp comms.

BTW - the datawrite are cheaper from svp comms

i read this at sony site, but i allready done that

has anyone having problems with the sony dvd-r (dmr47a) and the sony dru-500a recorder???

  26. May sound stupid, but worth a try if your running XP.

Double click my puter, right click the sony and select properties.
Click the recording tab, and make sure "enable cd recording on this drive" is ticked.

The reason i say this is, if i burn an xbox .iso, and the tick is not there, it wont read the disc. However, if i tick it, the folder to my sony is opened, although i cant see any files and windows cant read the xbox filing structure.

Probably not the reason for you, but worth a try at least!

No one`s hurting. Jesus the way you speak you`d think we were asking where to get a gun to shoot someone, although right now thats not a bad idea.

did you really read my post??? did you???

i have one Sony DRU500A and i'm having problem with a DVD that i can't read in the recorder but that works just fine in other dvd's, and that used to work before i did the upgrade of the firmware, so why not asking in this thread if anyone else is having problems with that specific media after upgrading to 1.0d firmware???????

the media, that is in my previous post (in case you didn't see it) is a SONY DVD-R DMR47A

    calm down

    hugs,
