  1. When converting to mpeg in TMPGEnc you can preview the movie. My question is, should it play with sound in the preview? if it does not does that mean no sound is converting?

How do I fix this problem? I've extracted the audio and converted it to a WAV file which I believe is the correct way to do this so why am I not getting any sound?

I've installed all the recommended codecs, I've also run the video avi and audio wav files through gspot and it comes up with no problems.

What else can I do to try and fix this??

Somebody please help me, this is my first time trying to copy a movie (my big fat greek wedding!) onto vcd! I've just bought a new DVD player and I'm desperate to try it out with a copied movie.

Thanks in advance for any help, very much appreciated.

  3. Thank you for your help.

Does that mean you won't know whether the sound has worked out okay until you've copied it onto disk??

you don't have to wait until you burn it into CD... you can play the converted mpeg using WMPlayer and hear the sound...

  6. If I stop it in TMPGEnc while it is encoding will I not have to start from the beginning? or can I continue from where I left off?

What do I do then to watch a bit of it?

Sorry about all the questions, I'm new to this. This is my first copy, I just hope it works!! I've had alot of problems and it's taken me days just to get to this stage.

Thanks to all who replied to my post, it's very much appreciated.

    Regards
    Karen

Stop the encoding process and watch the mpg in any prgoram (windows media player perhaps), then if it works encode the whole file.
    Good luck.

  8. Yes, stop the conversion after a couple of minutes and play your new MPG to see if it worked. If you are doing VCD (ie MPG-1) then you can play it with Windows Media Player. If it worked, start the conversion again. It will start at the beginning again, but you only lost a few minutes of time. I would also suggest that if its your first time and you are going to view your final movie on your standalone DVD player, do a small test first and burn it on a CD-RW to make sure it also plays good on your player.

    If you want to hear the sound do this;

Setting > Audio > Use Audio edit > Setting > Play

Before I start coding........I scan every Avi with Virtualdub Mp3, you'll see that this saves time. See the guides from King John.
"King Johd ": Did you already check VirtualDub Ac3? And if so; is it any good? D.C.

King John; can you be a bit more specific? Normally I use Vdub & Ciller's Ac3tool to deal with Ac3 files........ what would you recommend?

Well that's down to what you prefer, lets face it there are so many ways.

I recommend Headac.23a for converting AC3 to WAV its simple to use and gets the job done, but importantly it has been used without problems by thousands.

However, if there are no junk frames, TMPGEnc will convert AC3 audio files without problems anyway.
