I finally converted to Win XP after nothing but crashes with Win ME. Anyway, I was in the process of creating IFO's for a set of VOB files and it seemed that everything was going fine. At the very end, IFO popped up an error screen saying there was a critical error in the process and could not finish. It also created a very detailed error report that it wanted sent over the internet back to IFO headquarters. It accessed the web and set the file.
I looked at the details of the report and when it identified the version of the software on my system, it said that I had Windows NT ver 5.1,XXX.
What is the story with Microsoft,... they are selling updated NT software as a NEW Windows XP,... what a bunch of crap.
I've probably run IFOedit 50 times under WinME, with out a problem,.. it was all kinds of other crap that caused it to crash, like burning software, printers spools, etc.
Is there a file on this web site where someone has posted warnings about Windows XP. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked if you have the lastest version of IfoEdit?
FWIW, I'm running WinXP Pro with IfoEdit 0.95 and don't have problems with it.

Running Xp SP1 and ifoedit never had a single problem
just so you know:
Windows2000 = Windows NT5.0
Windows Xp = Windows NT5.1[-Neoh*-]|[-Cheers-] -
Thanks for all the quick replys. I've spent most of the day just downloading all of the updates for XP, including SP1.,,, man,.. that was 30 MB by itself. Then all the other updates, and before I finished there was "TWO" updates for the ATI driver.
No the testing starts. First thing I've noticed is that I do have IFOedit 0.95. I was considering going backward to test older versions, but I'll it again.
I've already seen a lot of problems with XP,.. for example there is not way to run a "Scandisk" to fix errors on any disk. There is "Error checking" function that will only run when you restart your system. I tried that on a couple of my disks, and at boot time, it said it would start the error checking,... but it never did,... just hung the system in a hard lock..... so much for improvements. Tried it again and it did the same thing. I hope that SP1 has fixed all that. The other thing is that once I got all done downloading all the updates, a message popped up from the task bar saying "Your updates are ready for download,.. do you want to see a list of them" I opened the list and it was everything I had just downloaded and installed. I went back to the windows update site and checked my install history and sure enough, it was already installed.
Seems like there are still plenty of bugs in XP. Anyone know a good web site with a forum on XP.
Thanks again."Technology",...It's what keeps us all moving forward. -
I have xp pro, and i had to format after i installed SP1, cause it
would let me access my video-card output, tried to un-install it
but that caused critical failures everywhere...who needs damn
updates that kill system performance anyway.... -
I've just finished all the updates and checking the basic disk. I got error checking to work after the updates. However, I re-ran IFOedit and the vob files I need to get IFO's for, it went through the entire set, and got the same results,... error.
The first popup said the "IFO job completed OK". When I clicked on "OK" it popped up a second window saying "No TimeMap table, skipping Tmap table creation",... I clicked OK to that. Then the big error screen comes up saying a serious error occured durning IFOedit process and an error report will be sent to IFO team, and that I should notify Microsoft of the error. It then logged on to the internet, sent the error log and closed. None of the new files, which had already been completed were saved to the disk. The only thing I can think might be wrong was that I requested to save the new IFO files back to the same directory as the VOB files.
Since I have nothing else to do, I think I will go get the last version of IFOedit and see what it does in Win XP.
Any suggestions will be appreciated."Technology",...It's what keeps us all moving forward. -
Well would you believe,... I downloaded an older version of IFOedit, version 0.91. I re-ran the same VOB files to get new IFO's and had no problems at all. I got new VTS Sectors and saved the results. It has always amazed me that when you run IFOedit and create things, they are not always saved. Anyway I saved the IFO files and the BUP files and then got the VTS sectors.
After that I used Nero 5.5.9.17.0 to burn a DVD+RW in DVD-Video mode and it worked perfect the first time. All key functions worked, 2x, 4x, chapters, skips, etc. I almost can't believe it.. I've been struggling with this for more than a week and it has caused me to totally change my system, dump Win ME, and start over with XP.
I don't know what is wrong with IFOedit 0.95, but I will try to let them know that version 0.91 works for me.
I just hope this good fortune continues. Thanks for everyones help."Technology",...It's what keeps us all moving forward.
